If you think about it, that scene is also incorporated into the Rocky movies, except again rocky was the winner.

Hogan told the story about that and that it was based on the Wepner/Andre incident in the Biography Channel episode on him. He broke his connection with the WWF at the time to do that movie and he had to go work for another, lesser, promoter for a while after that IIRC. As I recall the story, he got such good publicity after the movie came out, along with some other acting and publicity, the McMann (sp?) decided to take him back.
