I think Hanson has it wrong, that the US will back down. High oil prices are more of an incentive to weaken Iran than to cow toe. Cowboy diplomacy is not dead. Furthermore, the nuke issue will not go away -- but increase, if America backs down. America has more to gain with the collapse of Syria's ruling family... which leaves only Iran left in the house of cards.

Read it again -- Hanson didn't say that the US will back down, he said that Iran and Syria think so. He is responding to Gibson's question:" "So the Iranians and the Syrians seem to be transparently behind this and seem to feel they can get away with it. Why? "

And the Dems and the media were the ones who let Iran and Syria think they can get away with it, and that's why they started the conflict.

Of course we are not going to let them get away with it, but if we had a united front IN the US, they may not have become so emboldened to start the conflict in the first place.
