hell, we decimated Japan and nuked two of their cities - because we lost 2000+ sailors at Pearl Harbor. I guess that was "dis-proportionate" too.

Not to mention Germany. The Allies incinerated, what, something like 40,000, mostly civilians, in the firebombing of ONE city (Dresden, I believe?)
Give the Axis powers of WW2 "proportionate responses" and Hitler might have had the A-Bomb first - what a lovely thought.
