Israel will not engage Syria unless Syria intervenes on behalf of Hezbollah. Then all bets are off.

(Go Israel Go! Slap 'em down Hezbullies.)

"Yes, but the war never would have happened in the first place if Sharon was still in power or if Bibi had been elected."

You could be right, but I'm not so sure about that. These rocket attacks and incursions by Hezbollah appear to be Iran's answer to the offer of economic aid and civilian nuclear power assistance if Iran stops uranium enrichment. It's no coincidence that these attacks started just a few days before the G8 meeting, which is the deadline set by the EU and US for a response from Iran. Iran's response certainly appears to be that Iran will cause a lot of trouble in the Middle East if the West starts to use economic or military force to stop Iran's nuclear weapons program.

I think Iran is testing the West here. Saddam tested the US and Great Britain and we passed that test and took out Saddam's regime, but at a higher cost in lives than we expected. Now Iran seems to be saying: "OK, you shut down Saddam's WMD programs, but can the West do that again?" They're testing us to see if the US and EU have the will to shut down another nuclear program. This is the first phase of the test. We had better have the will to stop them or we'll be in big trouble in about five years. I believe we have the will to stop Iran, and Bush is going to do so before he leaves office in 2009.

I don't see the point in engaging Syria. They have no military to speak of. Syria is the bully's buddy who stands around egging on the big boys. Assad is a pussy. If Israel is going to escalate this, their business is in Teheran.

NOW is the best opportunity we will have. Teheran expects us to tread moderately with a measured response. israel has good cause to nuke Teheran, and that would certainly answer the test you speak of.

Good morning everyone:) This is as late as I could "sleep in" LOL..too much going on I guess.

From the Jersalem Post:

"Olmert said Israel had no "intention of surrendering in the face of these threats. We know that there will be many more tests, our enemies are trying to disrupt life in Israel, and they will fail..."

homes (Ch. 10)

Big town, 22 miles N of the Israel/Leb border, see map:

LOL! There's a major war blooming in the ME and somebody at CNN made the proud executive decision to rerun a three day-old interview with a psycho run out of journalism for being a lying pariah? Way to go, CNN.

On second thought, CNN should hire Blather. Maybe the freak show would draw some viewers.

This reminds of Saddass's threat to bring on "The mother of all wars" in '91.

Arutz Sheva has more recent updates. The Israel Air Force is now engaged in suppression operations to destroy the Katyusha and Grad rocket batteries aimed at Israel.

I've waited 23 years for these ragheads to get their butts whipped after the '83 baracks incident in Lebanon. It's finally going to happen ...

I wouldn't go quite that far just yet. But if Iran successfully tests a nuclear weapon, then we're in a critical situation and all kinds of very serious scenarios are possible. But given how relatively calm our world leaders seem to be these days, I think it's highly unlikely that Iran is close to testing a working nuclear weapon.

I tell ya though, I understand your desire to act now. It would solve some problems to blast them right now, but impatient action would cause even bigger problems for the long term. But I have a bad feeling that Iran is going to cause a lot of trouble for many months before their nuclear program is shut down one way or another.
