North Korea excluded from Chávez' official tour
Despite rumors over the last few weeks that Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez had plans to visit North Korea -a possibility that caused discomfort in the US State Department-, Pyongyang is not included in Chávez' upcoming international travel.
On Thursday, the National Assembly authorized Chávez to travel abroad next July 19-August 2. He is to visit seven countries in South America, Europe and Asia, namely, Brazil, Argentina, Belarus, Russia, Qatar, Iran and Vietnam.
The National Assembly Foreign Policy Committee head Carlos Escarrá said in Argentine town of Córdoba Chávez is to take part in the summit of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur).
El Universal tried to reach the Venezuelan Foreign Affairs vice-minister for Asia, and Middle East, Alcides Rondón, to ask him about Chávez' agenda in Asia and the reasons why North Korea was excluded from his journey, but neither Rondón nor other officials were available for comments.
