... Every time stuff like this happens, the price of oil goes up and the worldwide economy totters.
That's exactly what Iran wants.
Iran is behind the terror attacks on Israeli forces. The whole thing is part of World War III, ...Islamic fascism against the West. That global conflict,...
... Iran is protected by China and Russia. It knows it can finance and train terrorists. It knows it can order Hezbollah to attack Israel any time it wants.
... Iran gives Hezbollah about $100 million a year, but Russia and China don't care. China wants Iranian oil. Russia want the USA on the defensive in the War on Terror.
So we have a terror nation -- Iran -- developing nuclear weapons and provoking war in the Middle East. ... Iran understands that violence is a good thing for the jihad. Having Israel attack Lebanon and Hamas means more Muslims will become terrorists. More Arabs will hate Jews, but what's Israel supposed to do?
Imagine terrorists sneaking across the Mexican border killing eight American soldiers and kidnapping two more. The USA would attack any country harboring those terrorists.
Iran timed this whole thing perfectly. It was under pressure to negotiate the nuke issue, so it used Hezbollah to avert attention, at the same time sending a message to the world that Iran can disrupt things any time it wants.
... With China and Russia actually helping the evil jihad, options are limited. The campaign in Iraq is brutal. The USA can't launch another ground action and Iran knows it.
The U.N. is a cowardly farce. NATO? MIA. So Iran sits there and gloats about all the death and destruction it is causing.
...
How would Ted Kennedy, or Barbara Boxer, or Howard Dean wage the terror war?...

Russia want the USA on the defensive in the War on Terror. They're still fighting the Cold War. .....or are bitterly attempting to avenge their loss in it. Hopefully one day they'll wake up and correctly identify their true enemy, which also happens to be the enemy of all civilization -- Islam.

We should care because approx 25,000 Americans are in Lebanon. Chances are, the next step Hezbollah takes is to kidnap Americans. U.S. citizens are now trapped and ripe for the picking.

Kind of an embarrassing statement in light of the report of Mexicans firing at American Sheriff Deputies this week. Not to mention all the other cross border crime.

Foreigners are routinely kidnapped for ransom in that area. Those that go there know the risks, and have made their own personal decision about being there or not. The State Dept has issued warnings about being there for years, any Americans living/working in Lebanon are told that the USA has limited resources there to aid them and recommend against their being there.

We should care because Israel is the canary in our cave.

I can tell you how I would wage the war on terror that would be different from the way Bush has waged it. <1> A clear identification of the enemy - Islam - and rhetoric equating them with the Nazi threat of WW II. <2> A complete ban on immigration by Islamic immigrants to the United States. A ban on the renewal of visas held by Muslims in the United States. <3> A wall on the southern border preventing Muslim illegals from slipping in amongst the hoards of Mexican illegals. <4> The end of all foreign aid to Muslim nations. Let them eat oil. <5> An attack on Afghanistan which remade that nation in our own image - not a "Muslim democracy". <6> A ban which prevented holders of passports from Islamic nations from flying on US airlines. <7> Attack Afghanistan, Iran, and North Korea - not Iraq.

You'd think Russia would have learned the true nature of the enemy at Beslan.

Exactly.
What I can't understand is why such a huge portion of the US doesn't see such a blatantly obvious fact.

Heck, even if one has no interest in Middle Eastern politics, this is the ultimate underdog-will-win story.

Most of the U.S. is oblivious to cause/effect. Ask 10 people about the Arab oil embargo in the 70's. 8 of 10 never heard about it.

You've nailed it.
We have a very ignorant society as a whole.
We will not wake up to the danger until it is here in our own backyard.

We should care because approx 25,000 Americans are in LebanonI've seen that number bandied about today but find it very hard to believe. 25,000 is a huge number. Lebanon's a very small country, barely half the size of CT. Do you have any substantiation for that number?

HELP, PLEASE:
Which is it? Is it Hizbullah, Hezbollah or Hizbollah?
I've seen it spelled all three ways in three stories since yesterday and while it may be that there are more than one way of spelling for these rag headed sand monkeys, its a minor annoyance and perhaps one of you erudite freepers will be so kind to elucidate the ol dummy or is it dhimi?. LOL

Sometimes I think that the only answer to these problems is not to be found in this world....Only God Himself , if He exists, can settle these issues with the moslems. He is said to have lead the Jews form Egypt and demonstrated to the Pharaoh His power in many ways . It's time again. Only God
can duly impress these headstrong ignorant moslems to reform.
But where is He? On holiday elsewhere in this vast vast Universe ? If anyone has a direct line to Him would you please intercede and ask Him to return here and make a suitable demonstration that will once and for all end this ignorance of islam?

What I can't understand is why such a huge portion of the US doesn't see such a blatantly obvious fact.
A good sized portion of American adults believe that Bill Moyers is a journalist. The Left and MSM regularly spin the war on Israel and their response as merely a religious issue. So, people say, Another religious war in a land far away.
