Decision Time: Will this war go nuclear?
www.frontpagemag.com ^ | 7/14/2006 | David Horowitz

Here is the situation: World leaders are lining up, either on the side of the Islamic terrorists (Chirac and Putin) or the side of their victims (the United States and -- somewhat -- Great Britain). The Vatican, which has an unsavory record in regard to the periodic slaughters of the Jews has thrown its moral weight (such as it is these days) onto the scales against the Jews. As the Hizbollah terrorists fire hundreds of rockets into Israeli cities from Lebanon and the Pope condemns Israel's attempts to destroy the rockets aimed at its citizens, Israel's chief of staff is forced to concede that those rockets can reach farther than previously thought, putting more Israelis in danger. Meanwhile, the Syrian terrorist state tells Time magazine that it could destroy Israel's nuclear sites. Hizbollah, Hamas, Iran and Syria occupy areas that are one hundred times the size of Israel and the populations they control are ten times the size of Israel's. Hizbollah and Hamas, and their patron Iran, have sworn to remove Israel from the face of the earth -- in those very words. Iran has defied the world community in asserting its determination to complete its nuclear program. Syria supports Iran, hosts Hamas and is a party to this malignant Islamic crusade. Behind them stand Russia and China and North Korea, and also apparently the international left which is lining up squarely behind the jihadists -- and has been doing so throughout the open preparation of this second holocaust. The left's favorite apostle Noam Chomsky only months ago was embracing Hizbollah's Hitler, Hassan Nasrallah, and his genocidal agendas.

So here is the issue: If you were Israel's prime minister, could you afford to wait until Iran attains nuclear warheads for Hizbollah's missiles? Or can you be sure it hasn't already been supplied such warheads by Russia or China through Iran? Could you afford to wait to see if Syria will supply the chemical and biological weapons it has cached for Saddam Hussein to Hizbollah and Hamas? Or would you proceed to plan B and obliterate them now?

While the Israeli prime minister ponders this question, leftists who are encouraging the forces of genocide -- Hizbollah, Hamas, Syria and Iran -- might want to think how all the present bloodshed and the next terrible decisions that Israel must take to defend itself -- and their consequences -- will lie on their heads.

The arabnews link doesn't have the Vatican story, but here's the full item again:

HOLY SEE CONDEMNS VIOLENCE IN MIDDLE EAST

VATICAN CITY, JUL 14, 2006 (VIS) - Cardinal Secretary of State Angelo Sodano today made the following declaration on Vatican Radio:

"The news we are receiving from the Middle East is certainly worrying. The Holy Father Benedict XVI and all his collaborators are following with great attention the latest dramatic episodes, which risk degenerating into a conflict with international repercussions.

"As in the past, the Holy See also condemns both the terrorist attacks on the one side and the military reprisals on the other. Indeed, a State's right to self-defense does not exempt it from respecting the norms of international law, especially as regards the protection of civilian populations. In particular, the Holy See deplores the attack on Lebanon, a free and sovereign nation, and gives assurances of its closeness to those people who have suffered so much in the defense of their own independence.

"Once again, it appears obvious that the only path worthy of our civilization is that of sincere dialogue between the contending parties."

Anyone care to bet that the emphasized sentences made it into the arabnews report?

And -- given that the Vatican is one of the historical cradles of diplospeak -- does anyone else here think the line "those people who have suffered so much in the defense of their own independence" might just be a reference to the people who declared that independence on May 14, 1948??

Congratulations. You are the stupidest FReeper I have ever heard of, let alone encountered on a thread.

If that makes you want to cry and complain about me to your boyfriend, fine.

"That part about the Vatican and the Jews is pure incediary device."

Agreed. So incendiary that I suspect it is planted for a good reason, the smoke of war takes many forms and it can be a shield.

Horowitz is periodically an idiot. Just look at his checkered past -- and his uninformed comments on the Vatican; he's a political bipolar disorder.

Do you have any idea what was actually said, other than what Horowitz is spinning?

This has been going on for centuries. It has nothing to do with The President.

They can plead all they want to Mars, but if Israel thinks they are guilty it will be just as bad for them as if the entire world thinks so.

If it goes nuclear, with the Iranians launching the first shot, then the complete blame will fall to the Euros and the Russians. Old world politics at their best.

What are you talking about? Iran, as far as we know, doesn't have a nuke yet or they would have used it by now. The whole point of this thread is to ascertain whether or not Israel is going to take care of terrorist states now while it can, or gamble their very existance away in "hopes" their mortal enemies will all of a sudden become civilized.

Israel is going to be blamed and cursed no matter what she does. It's high time she started acting in her own self interest for a change, and to hell with the rest of the world!

Do anything you like as drastic as you like, it will still never end. Only the dead have seen the end of war.

I'd rather have the nuclear destruction of Tehran and Damascus than see the defeat of Israel (even if it were done with conventional weapons). Another Hiroshima would be preferable to a defeated Israel.

It almost sounds like if we don't have a "controlled burn," we could very easily lose the entire forest.

China has sent materials to NK for refining plutonium out of spent reactor fuel. Russia has thousands of technicians in Iran this instant working in the Iranian nuclear sector. They are as reckless as you please, and the rational restraint you ascribe to them is entirely between your own ears and a fantasy.

"behind any side of a war unless one side is clearly identifiable as "purely evil.""

It is and he isn't. So sorry, your claim has been falsified.

Well somebody should tell the Israelis that, because so far the gloves are very much still on. They are waiting to bomb Hamas buildings until 1 AM so nobody is there, and the like.

Need to be, sure, will be, not a chance. Nobody in responsible positions in the world today is a tenth that serious about anything. I mean that literally. They are all frivolous clowns, every last one.

While I don't disagree in substance with any of your comments, I was struck by the formulation, that Bush won't be the one would can be blamed, but he will be. What does it mean that somebody can't be blamed? Moral idiots will blame Mount Rushmore for the sun coming up if they want to. Who cares what can be blamed? Who wants to avoid being blamed by frivolous idiots? The sad fact is, the true answer to the last question is "most of the world". What is needed is a hearty portion of utter contempt for blame of any kind, from such worthless sources.

Wait five minutes. The world isn't doing a thing about it, and if the world does nothing Iranian nukes are simply a matter of time.
