Not surprising, really. Lots of tourists in town this time of year. The same thing happened a few years back in Miami when all the carjackings were happening. Ditto the ongoing denial of gang activity in the city of Chattanooga by local officials. It's all an attempt to not scare away tourists. Those who live here know better........
I know you guys have to be kidding right?
All we'd have after shooting a couple rioters is a couple of very wealthy families of the rioters and the Orange county residents paying for it.
I'm glad the cops kept thier cool. Getting one's ass kicked is not a legitimate reason to end someone's life.
I think the reason this wasn't escalated and isn't being reported has to do with tourism and the recent crap with Dizzy and Whine Lynam.
Pity the police. If they had acted to quell the threat of riot with any display or use of force you can bet the usual cries of " racism and police brutality would have been heard". No doubt knowing this, Orlando and the police department most likely have a mandated policy that encounters like the one at Palm Springs are to be dealt with in a non confrontational manner. In situations like this the ACLU, NAACP, and the liberal courts have made sure that the police hands will be tied.
I am just guessing. But recalling similar police reaction to crowd violence makes me think I am on target.
My Point --
Just think if this happen in Iraq -- this would be breaking news on cnn
It's fascinating to watch the racial politics at work in local newsrooms. The world is completely different depending on which TV station you watch or newspaper you read.
There is a local problem with black "cruisers" in my city. The cruising is really an alcohol-fueled party that settles on a few blocks of a major thoroughfare, closing down the streets and terrorizing the residents. Shots are fired, homes are vandalized, there have been home invasions reported. When the cops arrive, a near riot often ensues.
Two of the TV stations cover this, but two don't and the newspaper only covers the political issue, not the reality of the cruising and the impact on people in the affected area.
It shouldn't be any surprise that the TV stations don't want to cover a story like the Orlando riot.
200 of Iraq's poor riot with US 10 troops after the troops attempt to detain 2 of the suspects in one of Iraq's poorest communities...
Troops are pelted with rocks and bottles and must run to escape the angry crowd with their lives..
More of Mr. Bush's failed policy
The police should have called for reinforcements and opened fire in their own defense.
Tourists don't like riots...
Welfare-fueled cultural angst, bolstered by liquid courage, crystal energy, and that unique "hangin'-round-da-projecks" boredom.
Odd. In my day, that was called "anarchy." And it was the very thing the police -- and indeed the collective power of the state -- was created to prevent. Since it appears that the state has become voluntarily powerless to do so, then the power to protect themselves reverts to The People. The social contract is broken.
Gee, I wonder if this is a white neighborhood. The article doesn't say one way or another. Don't you just hate it when a white neighborhood acts up this way? SARC
Not to mention law abiding citizens armed with shotguns.
When I read the title I wondered if somebody dissed Mickey.
O town ping
Major Crotty and the Orange County Sheriff need to show the Orlando PD how handle these punks.
