Poppycock! Elemental lead is so inert it can't be picked up by the bird's digestive system and because of it density is isn't going to be in the digestive track for very long. I'd be willing to swallow a load of buckshot to prove that point.
I'm not so sure about that. I watched a starling die of lead poisoning in my back yard this afternoon. One minute he was just sitting there and the next he just flopped over. He injested a pellet.....the hard way.
