Had that in my leg. Got it treated fast and didn't have to be hospitalized, but if I'd been stubborn and tried to tough it out...

Best wishes to Mr. Hastert - there'll be time for politics when he's better.

cellulitis, a skin infection that appears as a swollen, red area that feels hot and tender, and that can spread rapidly without treatment. . . .

This can be very dangerous, even with treatment. I had this same type of infection in my right leg three years ago and nearly died from it. I was in the hospital for 13 days, ran a fever well over 100 for a week straight, developed blood-poisoning and pneumonia, etc. People (especially middle-aged and older men, I've noticed) die, lose limbs, etc. from this. Antibiotic-resistant infections have become epidemic in the last five years or so.

Whatever you think of Hastert's politics, we still wish him well.

It took me 4 months to feel normal after it.

Took me well-nigh a year to recover from my leg infection.
But then having an ER doc prescribe me a steroid (prednisone)
instead of an antibiotic was what just about did me in.
Wish I'd had a camera to capture the doctor's face when he
saw my turning-blue leg 24 hours later. And muttered "uh, I
think we need antibiotics".

That taught me to always double-check the doctor's advice with the Internet.
As was said in an old comedy "Someone has to keep an eye on those geniuses."

Glad to hear you made it through that gauntlet.
I thought I had a rough time...but you toughed out an nastier infection
than mine.
Still amazed when I hear some MDs acting like cellulitis is some sort of
odd/rare thing.

What an idiotic thing to do - to give you steroids. They decrease the immune system - and yours was already compromised. It's crazy how we need to do our own research before visiting the doctor. They're so busy they can't seem to think outside the box. I'm glad you're better.

Gee, if Coach Hastert goes, where will we get any conservative Republican leadership? ( sarcasm/off )

Just pray and leave if you don't like his politics.

Goodness, this is Speaker Hastert not a bank robber.

If you had Mr. Hastert's health benefits you probably would have been hospitalized and treated like royalty. Unlike the ruling class we get screwed.
