Musgrave receives letter from widower
Emma Schmautz
July 13, 2006
Terri Schiavo is no longer alive, but the fierce battle that ensued over her death in March 2005 continues to permeate national politics.
Michael Schiavo, Terri's husband who fought for seven years to end his wife's life after a 1990 brain injury left her in a vegetative state, presented a letter Wednesday afternoon to Colorado Republican congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave's Loveland office.
Schiavo was accompanied by Angie Paccione, Democratic candidate from Colorado's 4th Congressional District who is a state representative out of Fort Collins.
The letter stated his great offense to the remarks Musgrave made about his wife on the House floor and his opposition to her interference in his private life.
"I continue to believe that you took advantage of my family's situation for political gain without regard for who you hurt," Schiavo wrote. "While I sought only dignity for Terri, you played to the camera, and you played to a waiting crowd of political extremists."
Musgrave was one of Congress' strongest supporters of keeping Terri Schiavo alive and championed President Bush's bill to prevent doctors from removing her feeding tubes.
Paccione said it was no business of Republicans to be interfering in Schiavo's tragedy.
"When people write their living will it won't say 'Contact Tom DeLay and Marilyn Musgrave,' " Paccione said referring also to the Texas Republican congressman.
Musgrave was in Washington D.C. in congressional session when Schiavo delivered the letter to her office, but commented briefly on Schiavo's action.
"I have only compassion for Michael and Terri's family, and all those who have lost a loved one," Musgrave said. "She said she felt compassion for me," Schiavo said in response. "What compassion?"
Schiavo said he is officially endorsing Paccione and eight other Democratic candidates from Colorado because he believes they will uphold personal privacy rights.
"I'm fearful that she'll continue to push her nose into other people's business," Schiavo said of Musgrave. "If I'm on board I'll make sure she doesn't win." State Republican Chairman Bob Martinez made a written statement against the Democratic candidates who have appeared with Schiavo at fundraising events.
"I can't help but believe that the majority of Coloradoans were appalled to learn that Michael Schiavo is helping political candidates profit off his wife's death," Martinez said. "This definitely highlights how hypocritical Democrats are."
Paccione, who is a strong supporter of individual liberty and property rights, called Michael Schiavo the human face of the government interfering in private issues.
"People have got to stand up against this over-reaching, big brother government," Paccione said.
Michael Schiavo should hook up with Mother Shehan. They could have a blast expoiting their deceased family members.
Michael officially endorses the party of Death...shocking! -sarc
Michael Schiavo is a steaming POS.
Michael Schiavo: The Turd that just won't flush.
IS one still a "widower" if one kills one's wife?
***"I'm fearful that she'll continue to push her nose into other people's business," Schiavo said of Musgrave***
Killing an inconvenient member of your family IS everybody's business.
Excellent one-liner. I'm gonna steal it. :->
I wonder if we can get Michael Schiavo to endorse other Democrats in '06.
He's almost as popular as the late, Ken Lay.
"IS one still a "widower" if one kills one's wife?"
Yep. And "grieving", too.
YOU TOOK THE WORDS RIGHT OUT OF MY MIND. IF ONLY EVERY DEM HOPEFUL WOULD GET MICHAEL ON BOARD, THEY WOULD NEVER "ROW THE BOAT ASHORE--THEY WOULD SINK IN A BIG STINK, OR FLOAT FOREVER ON THAT RIVER OF NO RETURN.
VAUDINE
Michael is a pig and I hope he keeps talking and supporting those death-loving Democrats.
How in the hell will he do that? He can't starve everyone to death...
I certainly hope all the "right to die" FReepers who sided with Michael Schiavo notice where he stands... with his Democrat handlers.
That may be wishful thinking on your part.
This has the stench of Soros all over it!!
I could be wrong, but I don't think one gains nuch political capital by having Michael Schiavo in one's court. I doesn't bother me, though; I wish he would avtively campaign for each and every Democrat congressional candidate. (Cindy as well.)
There, fixed it.
When people write their living will
That's the problem - Terri didn't have a living will, just a guy that wanted her dead.
Excellent point. I have a feeling it will be pretty quiet though.
Hopefully he will appear with the Democratic nominee for Pres. in 2008. I wonder if the Demo's will be that stupid? My bet would be yes.
