Pardon Scooter Libby... The evidence is there
Fox News via The Hotline ^ | July 13, 2006 | The Hotline

Posted on 07/13/2006 7:05:55 AM PDT by PDR

from The Hotline --

"Project Runway" returns and Bob Novak sewed up questions regarding his role in Valerie Plame case:

Novak: "I called Rove. ... I called him for several reasons. I wanted to talk about the column I was writing about the mission to Niger. This is also, as almost all my conversations with Rove were, was not for attribution. And in the course of that, I asked him about Wilson's wife at the CIA working at the CIA and initiating this visit. And, as I remember the conversation very distinctly, Karl said to me, 'Yes, I know that, too.' And I took that as confirmation."

More: "Bill Harlow then said to me that, although she would likely never have another assignment abroad, he said it might be embarrassing if her CIA connection was written, and he asked me not to write it."

FNC's Hume: "Did he say her status was classified?"

Novak: "No, he did not." More: "He asked me not to write it. A lot of people ask me not to write things. I thought it was a pro forma request. He says, now, that he was very strong on it. I believe he was not" ("Special Report," 7/12).

More Novak: "The first source, who I have not identified, was the major source who informed me that Valerie Plame Wilson, Joe Wilson's wife, worked at the CIA."

The whole thing was a shame orchestrated by Wilson, Rand Beers, Sandy Berger and the other national security moles.. excuse me, clinton holdovers... plotting the downfall of the Bush Administration from the inside.

Please add the MSM... they were as critical in this one as they were in RATher/Mapes/Burkett/Lockhart.

The trial is needed to set the record straight since the Administration lacks the political acumen to do it.

I dunno but I'm angry about it. Don't send troops into hostilities if you aren't prepared to defend the mission and attack the underminers to the hilt. The troops deserve better than what happened here.

Not to keep beating a dead horse, but if the CIA confirms your employment over the phone, you are not covert.

Bush should and probably will pardon Libby, but not until after the November elections. To do otherwise would be like supplying ammo to your enemies.

Pardon? You can only be pardoned if convicted in a court of law ... Fitzgerald should, especially in light of the fact his case against Scooter Libby is unraveling by the hour, drop all charges and go home.

As unfortunate as the accusations are against Scooter, pardoning him now just isn't an option. I don't see any way to not allow the process to go forward, such as it is. When the day comes that he is actually convicted of something, that would be the time to pardon him, not before.

To jump the gun with a pardon would be political suicide. If it has to be done, it would be as the President leaves office.

"Pardon? You can only be pardoned if convicted in a court of law."

Sorry, not true. See excerpt of following. Also believe that Ford pardoned Nixon before he was/would have been, impeached.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/03/28/MNG65HV9CM16.DTL&type=printable

The charges against Mr. Weinberger, who ironically had vigorously opposed the idea of selling arms to Iran, involved several charges of lying about the matter. Walsh brought in San Francisco attorney James Brosnahan to prosecute Mr. Weinberger.

But the case was cut short when President George H.W. Bush pardoned Mr. Weinberger on Christmas Eve 1992, just days before the trial was to start and less than a month before the defeated Bush was due to leave office.

Wrong.....A President can issue a pardon at any time, including a pre-emptive pardon. eg...Gerald Ford pardoning Richard Nixon. Of course it cost Ford the election and gave us all Jimmy Carter.

So I agree w/the othe poster. that Politically, W can't pardon Libby now, lest the Demorats use it as election year b.s. But
W should do the pardon asap and spare Libby from unjust prosecution

He shouldn't need to. Libby should be accquitted. Actually, Fitz should drop the charges.

Wouldn't be great if he also pardoned DeLay at the same time?

The left would go into conniptions.

President's pardon ... almost always at the end of their term in office. We are talking about dropping charges where Scooter Libby is concerned ... Bush has 2.5 years left in office.

Fitz should drop the charges. Why? To do so would put how many Washington leeches (lawyers) without a paycheck, and with Christmas comming they expect Fitzmas to keep filling their stocking.

I have always been perplexed by the Bush admin.'s handling of this whole Valerie Plame nonsense. Bush gave the story legitimacy when he vowed to fire anyone who had leaked a covert op's name in his admin. Why didn't he just come out and say that Valerie Plame was NOT a N.O.C. agent, that her energy front company (Brewster Jennings) was NOT gathering intel on WMDs or Iranian nukes???

The fact that Bush didn't denounced Plame, Wilson et al at the onset, has lent the whole story an air of validation, confused the public, and has given his political enemies a story to attack him with.

I really do give the Bush admin some real blame for this. Clinton came into the WH and cleaned house w/ anyone who hand any association w/ any republican admin. Bush did the exact opposite thinking he was reaching out. Instead he got a slap in the face.
