"I don't know if Egypt is prepared or not to defend Syria against Israel,"
Egypt is on the U.S.A. gravy train. Who would pick up the ladle if we drop it? Russia? Iran?
Egypt might say some words but they got whipped (badly) by Israel twice before.
So do you think they would unhook from the U.S.A. gravy train, risk losing the income from the Suez for two years, risk having their airport cratered (lose of tourism), risk a destabilizing internal situation, risk loosing Gaza (again), risk loosing a large part of their air force (again), etc, etc
Remember, before you answer, there is NO USSR any more.

Not to mention waking up one morning and saying, "Hey, what happened to the Sphinx"?;)

I understand what you're saying. Is Egypt becoming like Turkey, more and more leanings toward islamofacist? How much power do the radical muslim have? They would never choose being on the American teat over allah. That's why I said, if it gets worse, it could turn into a religious war. All bets are off then. All for allah, allah for all.
