Now I am convinced that something more is going on. Pulling your ambassador is a pretty drastic step, at times a prelude to open war.

either that or a desperate attempt to try to avoid a war

Lebanon was invaded by Israel. I am sure they are thinking about declaring war.

Maybe they should declare war on the US? Then we would send them aid :)

Sounds like profound embarassment to me. Lebanon has been trying to disengage itself from Syria's grip for quite some time, and there are some good people there. Hizbollah has effectively unraveled many years of Lebanese effort to reclaim its place as a non-combatant.

And make their country a first world economic powerhouse.

Seriously, this does seem to indicate that whatever preplanning there has been, it has not included Lebanon.

"Now I am convinced that something more is going on."

If Lebanon can't disarm Hezbollah, they might like to have Israel do it for them.

The current Lebanese ambassador in the US is a left over from the ex-pro-Syrian regime, he is totally pro-Syrian and strongly anti-US. It is beyond me why he was not replaced yet.

Exactly I have been following a lot this the past few months on Micheal Tottens blog. The Israelis want the Lebanese patroling that border.

They pulled this ambassador for departing from the government line on Hizbollah. That's sort of a different thing. The Lebanese government is walking a tightrope - Hizbollah is the largest armed contingent in the country, is clearly a terrorist organization and quite capable of plunging Lebanon back into the horrors of the 80's. OTOH, they and the Syrians have been the de facto rulers of Lebanon for a couple of decades and their welcome has clearly worn out. How to get rid of this unwelcome and heavily-armed guest? Well, another unwelcome and heavily-armed guest might just do it for them.

I read that. You might try to refind it, I think it will be very relevant.

Wars and rumors of wars - God bless Israel with problems on so many fronts, much like this country. Scary times like never before!

Interesting how so many historical revisionists wish to pin the blame on Israel. Interesting how so many of them (the revisionists) hate this country also and are on the continual path of revising our own history in America.

Ok here is his blog
http://www.michaeltotten.com

I think this is the biggest eyeopener on the situation on Israel, Lebanon and all the factions. His comment sections are great. Alot of Lebanese and Israeli interaction. Painful at times but very good.
I think his archives are outstanding including everything he did in april, May , and JUne especially. SOme of the last entries he did was in the region not controlled by the Lebanon Government on the Israeli border on north

The comment I was referring to can be found here
http://www.michaeltotten.com/archives/001132.html
"
What do you think about all this?” I said.

“We really want the Lebanese army on this border,” he said.

Lebanon and Israel technically have been at war for many decades. But Israel and Lebanon have never actually fought any battles. Israel has been involved in plenty of fighting in Lebanon, but none of it ever involved the Lebanese army or government. Neither side has ever actually fired on the other. Neither side wants to. All Israel’s Lebanon battles were waged against the PLO and Hezbollah.

“Are you in contact with the Lebanese government?” I said.

“We pass messages to the Lebanese army through the UN,” he said.

“How well are they received?” I said.

“Oh, they’re received very well,” he said. “The only problem is the Lebanese army can’t act against Hezbollah.”

and

"was last November,” he said. “Hezbollah invaded the village of Ghajar in white jeeps that looked like they belonged to the UN. We bombed their positions with air strikes. After a while, the Lebanese army asked us to stop. So we stopped right away.”

"Why did you stop?" I said. "You stopped just because the Lebanese army asked you to stop?"

He looked surprised by my question.

“Of course we stopped because they asked," he said. "We have very good relations with them. We're working with them and trying to help make them relevant.”

Lebanon never admits anything like this in public."

This was a pretty good entry part two of this is the may 1st entry
