A Change of Mind... (Moonbat Prays for America's Defeat)
AOL discussion forum ^ | March 2003 | My Moonbat Ex-Husband

Posted on 07/12/2006 3:53:47 PM PDT by M. Thatcher

Most of those who know me would agree that I am the epitome of a knee-jerk liberal: any time a discussion turns to matters political or touching on social policy, I can be counted on to immediately take a point of view somewhat left of moderate liberalism. It makes sense, of course – I was raised in a family of Chicago Democrats during the sixties and my parents, now in their 80s, still retain the liberal fire they had while my brother and I were growing up.

It is no easy task, therefore, to admit to the fact that I now must take a position that will most likely prove unpopular – even despicable – to the friends and family that have known me for so long. The events of the last two years, however, have sown the seeds of doubt within my self-assurance, and now I must confess that their strange fruit has come to pass.

When any society is threatened to the point where its citizens must fear imminent violence and death...when the roar of a jet overhead causes sidewalk strollers to instinctively duck and cover in order to avoid death from above...when a foreign government issues a statement declaring that your country is evil and that it must cease to exist...when agents of that government then invade your country and attempt to wreak death and destruction...then that is when any sane person must stop the theorizing, put away the beliefs and inclinations built up over the years, and realize that this is a new world – a world in which the concept of evil has ceased to be the stuff of dorm room discussions and water cooler arguments. Instead, it has taken on a new and malevolent dimension – one that poses an immediate and all-too-real threat to the lives of thousands of people as well as the very principles on which America was founded.

These facts – and countless more like them – have slowly coalesced in my thoughts over the last few months. It is with a truly heavy heart that I realize I must change my long-lived tune and make a confession that will surely perplex some and enrage others of my acquaintance. First, I must make clear my belief that the death and destruction accompanying any war is a repugnant and vile consequence, and I in no sense wish for the death of anyone, either friend or foe, soldier or civilian. But in the end, I realize that war has come and that it must be won. And that is why I now must hope and pray for a victory by the Iraqi forces.

My daughter came home with this, quite upset, after a Memorial Day 2006 visit to her father's house. Her father had proudly shown it to her, boasting that he had written and posted it on AOL at the beginning of the war (in 2003) and had the "foresight" to be ahead of the curve...because now "most Americans agree" with him, says he. So naturally I thought it would be fun to post here.

What an idiot. We all hope the "Iraqi forces" take point and are ultimately victorious against the insurgency and foreign militants. All that build up to a statement meaning the opposite of what he/she meant to say.

Your ex is certainly an accomplished writer (though I disagree with him, 100%).

Huh, self-proclaimed "knee-jerk liberal" takes anti-American stance.

Not exactly a surprise.

I didn't read your follow up remark. His meaning was clear as this was pre-democratic Iraqi government. That's just insane. Lefties usually do everthing short of declaring they want us to lose.

I’ll send your ex a condolence card the day of Saddam’s hanging.

He's a douchebag, but at least he's an honest douchebag.

Strange... I'd've read that to mean he was abandonning his liberalism to root for Victory in Iraq.

This is from 2003. “The roar of a jet overhead” can only mean ours; “Iraqi forces,” only Saddam’s.

He clearly meant Saddam's Baathist regime when he said "Iraqi forces", which is interesting. Is he among the Leftists-Liberals-Democrats that took bribe or oil voucher money ala Jim McDermott, Scott Ritter, or Whathisname Galloway? If not, why not? He certainly hasn't any reason to fear any retribution or even upbraiding by his liberal peers.

I love how these totally uninformed Leftist-Liberal-Democrats decry the violence and destruction the 2nd Iraq war has wrought, all the time ignorant of the fact that Saddam's regime has butchered a minimum of a half million to perhaps 7 or 8 million of his own citizens during his 30 year career of slaughter, torture, and insane human rights abuses.

The war actually has reduced that number of Iraqis suffering all of the horrors the left has tried to pin on the US invasion. And they totally ignore all the facts of American support for human rights, democracy, and economic reconstruction that are steadily improving the lives of all Iraqis, and likewise in Afghanistan.

By their blind hatred of American foreign policy, George Bush, and the consequences of reality itself, the idiot Left that is on the side of terrorism, torture, starvation, and totalitarianism, they just must equivocate and dissemble when confronted with the facts of their ignorance and moral bankruptcy. Nothing unusual to be sure.

He's clearly hoping the United States of America will lose. He's a traitor.

Exactly. Which is why I posted this. The admission, especially given the early time frame in which he made it, puts him in a class by himself.

When did WE ever scramble for cover because of the roar of jets overhead? I'm guessing still feeling the 9/11 aftereffects. You're not from DC or NY, are you?

For his liberal friends, their reaction is "Shhh! Dude! You're not supposed to admit it!"

For his conservative friends, their reaction is "Well, I already knew that and normal people don't care what you say, anyway...so where's the surprise?"

We didn’t scramble from jets overhead. The jets are US military aircraft over Iraq; the “sidewalk strollers,” Iraqis coming off work from a baby milk factory or some such thing; “the agents of that government [that] then invade your country and attempt to wreak death and destruction,” again, our military. Mr. Moonbat ex-husband was clearly rooting for the defeat of our troops.

(But don’t just take my word for it, ask M. Thatcher).

My birth certificate says otherwise. Anyway, I understand your point about 9/11 jets. That doesn't alter my reading this moonbat's product (and unfortunately, I've seen others of its kind).

This piece is intentionally ambiguous -- it is a word game. It is an inkblot onto which the user projects his or her preferred meaning. It can be read as pro-American or anti-American, implying that both sides are morally equivalent.

Sorry, that should be "reader" not "user." I'm spending too much time with computers.
