(MONONGAHELA, July 12) Washington County Commissioner and Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey responding to a Jack Murtha press release documenting the myriad ways we could spend taxpayers money here at home instead of defending ourselves abroad against terrorists today released the following statement:
Today Jack Murtha pointed out 36 different ways to spend more than $100 billion worth of taxpayers money all with money he implies he would save by terminating our involvement in Iraq. About which, I have several things to say:
First, the notion of Jack Murtha saving money in a government budget is about as believable as the notion of Jack Murtha voting to cut taxes that is, both are outcomes highly to be desired, but neither is likely to happen before the end of the decade.
Second, the choices that Jack Murtha offers in his release increased domestic spending vs. continued spending on the ongoing war on terror is a false choice: we must continue to support the prosecution of the war on terror abroad, EVEN AS we bolster our defenses here at home.
The choice, in fact, is not between those who would spend our money in Iraq, on the one hand, and those who would spend our money here at home, on the other; the choice is between those who recognize it is better to fight terrorists in Baghdad than in Belle Vernon, and better to fight them in Fallujah than in Fredericktown, on the one hand, and, on the other, those who would retrench from forward positions and spend that money on the more standard brand of pork here at home something at which Jack Murtha has, over the decades, excelled.
Third, on behalf of the taxpayers of Pennsylvanias 12th congressional district, Im glad that at least Jack Murtha seems to have figured out that there ARE limits to how much of our money its right for the government to take and spend on our behalf. Just looking at his voting record over the years, for instance, it seems hes never met a tax he didnt hike: income taxes, death taxes, marriage penalty taxes, heck, he even voted repeatedly for higher taxes on Social Security benefits!
Fourth, the New Jack Murtha of July 2006 wouldnt recognize the Old Jack Murtha of June 2006 and before because the Old Jack Murtha didnt appear nearly as concerned about homeland security as this New Jack Murtha. How else to explain the Old Jack Murthas votes against letting the Department of Defense help protect our borders, even if the Department of Homeland Security decides thats the right course of action? Or his votes against making military personnel available to border patrols in order to fight drug trafficking and illegal immigration? Or his vote against increasing funds for the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program, which would use federal funds to pay for state and local costs incurred in arresting and detaining illegal aliens caught while crossing our borders illegally?
I could go on. But to tell the truth, rather than go on about Jack Murthas most recent about-face, Id rather talk to voters about my plans for a safer, stronger, more secure America where our borders are secure against those who break our laws to enter illegally; where taxes are lower, and families have more power over their financial security; where patients have more power over their own health care decisions; and where parents have more control over their childrens education.
There are 118 days left in this campaign. The good news is, thats plenty of time to make sure the voters of the 12th District know just who Jack Murtha really is.
Is she gaining ground in the polls?
I don't know, but she's got the aggressive attitude to do it.
Damn, she's good. I hope it equates into votes. Good luck PA. Wish I was there. (NJ Bites)
That "false choice" language is very sophisticated and tells me Mrs. Irey is well-educated. The "false choice" fallacy is an argument recognized in logic and rheotric as a fallacy. (Tautology there by me.)
I'm glad she called him on it and pointed out how ILLOGICAL Jack Murtha is.
Answer to the poll question:
Kerry Leads Bush In Florida
March 8, 2004
(CBS/AP) A new poll indicates Senator John Kerry is ahead of President Bush by six percentage points in Florida, with most voters questioning the president's handling of the economy and the war in Iraq.
The poll for The Miami Herald and the St. Petersburg Times said 49 percent of the 800 registered Florida voters surveyed would choose Kerry. It says 43 percent would pick Mr. Bush, while only five percent are undecided.

Repubican women rock!
What's the prize???
;*)
Photogenic too. But, mainly under 50. Dear LORD we need some new blood in there.
Every time she issues a press release she pounds the living schlit out of Big Murtha. I hope this translates into votes. I am going to donate, even if it is, and I am not sure it is, a losing cause. She deserves our support. If there are 35-40% Republicans in her district she should at least have an outside chance.
Good point. We need more Republicans like this.
More hot Republicans, too. Go Diana!
These releases are exactly the right thing for her to do. Hit Murtha on every ill conceived notion and misstatement of fact he makes, which is most every time he opens his mouth. The truth will win the election for Ms. Irey.
A big AMEN to that!

My friend is a Vietnam Vet that lives in Johnstown. He said the vets up there are really upset but the general population is just comfortable w/ him because of the pork.
I hope all the folks at campaign headquarters are reading this! ;*)
