New Delhi, July 12: Police suspect Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) to be behind the serial blasts in suburban trains in Mumbai that claimed 190 lives and left over 600 injured.

The magnitude of the sychronised blasts have conclusively pointed to the use of RDX by the attackers, official sources said in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Seven synchronised blasts in subruban trains in Mumbai on Tuesday evening have killed at least 190 people and left another 625 injured.

Several modules of LeT and SIMI were busted and huge amount of explosive materials, including RDX, were recovered during raids at various places in Aurangabad, Nasik and Nagpur in last two months, they said

December 30, 1999 - U.S. links Canadian woman to bomb-smuggling suspect. FBI puts squeeze on dozens with possible terrorist ties. BURLINGTON, Vermont (CNN) -- Federal prosecutors Thursday linked a Canadian woman arrested at a remote Vermont border crossing with an Algerian man arrested in Washington state and charged with attempting to smuggle bomb-making materials into the United States from Canada. A prosecutor said in court documents that Lucia Garofalo and Algerian Ahmed Ressam were in the same cell of the GIA, which was described as "a violent Algerian terrorist organization." Ressam is charged with attempting to smuggle one of the world's most powerful explosives into the United States two weeks ago. According to court documents released Tuesday, the liquid turned out to be RDX, or cyclotrimethylene trinitramine, used by military forces around the world for demolition. He is suspected of having ties to accused terrorist Osama bin Laden. FBI agents investigating the case showed up Thursday morning at the doors of 40 to 50 people located in states across the nation -- including New York, Texas, Washington, and California -- according to the sources, who said people were interviewed, but not arrested. The people contacted by FBI agents and local police were identified through surveillance that included telephone taps. They are believed to have ties to other people who are under investigation in the Ressam case, the sources told CNN.

For once, not? </s>

I am traveling to India in two weeks with my 9-yr old son. Visiting Delhi and Hyderabad.

My wife is really concerned, but I told her that the fanatics can do it anywhere. We just need to continue to the WOT and Bush doctrine!!!!

I would think they would want to wait for the results of a chemical analysis before saying something like this.

If it was indeed RDX that points to someone with access to military explosive components. That stuff isn't easy to cook up and its not available on the commercial market at all that I know.

Too bad Squantos isn't around anymore. He'd know for sure.

LET posters are not the ones having the same aims-The affluent Muslims in places like Kerala,T.N Delhi believe in much the same-though they are not as crude. They are educating themselves like hell. Most of them maybe innocent, but that is honestly not a good sign.

RDX use is pretty common for Slammic terrorists in India. The investigating agencies in Mumbai have seen this quiet a lot.

Really. I wonder where they're getting it. RDX isn't easy to cook up so they must have a source in the military for it.

How about Pakistani military(Pakistani army detonators were used in the 1993 blasts)???Or stuff from Afghanistan. It is not exactly impossible to infiltrate such stuff from the Kashmir,Bangladesh or Nepal borders.Or via sea.

You're correct. I'm probably being very parochial. Here in the US RDX is almost impossible to come by through legitimate means and attempting to purchase it would most likely get one a long prison stretch.

It will be a great trip, especially if you make good contacts. I suggest you begin now getting copies of the Times of India or the New Delhi Times (I think that's right), to start getting used to things. It is a huge populace, with a lot going on. I'm always amazed at the Indian culture's capacity to absorb events and continue on. Keep your senses keen, and your common sense engaged, but absorb and experience all you can. Don't forget the Immodium, but for God's sake, try the Vindaloo.
