Rendell returns favor to Hoeffel--Ex-candidate gets high-pay state (PA) job

HARRISBURG -- In March, former U.S. Rep. Joseph Hoeffel did Gov. Ed Rendell a big favor by dropping out of the Democratic race for lieutenant governor, a move that helped incumbent Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll win the May primary.

Now, Mr. Rendell has done something nice for Mr. Hoeffel, naming him to a vacant, high-ranking job at the state Department of Community and Economic Development.

Mr. Hoeffel started work yesterday as deputy secretary for international business development at a salary of $104,431 a year.

Was there a connection between Mr. Hoeffel's new job and his dropping the challenge to Mrs. Knoll -- a move he made under pressure from the governor and Western Pennsylvania Democrats?

That depends on whom you ask.

Joe Ho is dumber than dirt. I know this guy personally. He makes Jar Jar Binks look cool.

International Business Development? Damn Eddie, you're gonna get us nuked!!

Check back in a year and see if Joey hasn't run off everything we have.

Sheesh

I met him when I worked for Montgomery County. He didn't strike me as that dull at all. I did learn, though, that his parents are Republicans.

I lived 2 houses down from him. Worked against him when he ran for the pa house first time, when he was commissioner and when he ran for the house seat.

If you worked for the county, you and I may know each other.

With him and me, its very personal. Don't know about his parents, but Joey is a screaming, screaming liberal.

Could be, but I doubt the guy could be possibly have an IQ lower than Catherine Baker Knoll. I don't at all care for Rendell, but I do pray for his health. I shudder to think what would happen if he has too many of those artery-clogging Philly cheesesteaks and that loony woman became Gov.

LOL,

I really have to agree with you there. I'm wondering why Eddie kept her there.

I'll be you he's going to try and get Johnny Street Fighter to run in 2010. If I know Eddie, he has the next candidate for the job in mind, and didn't want Joey Hoey to gum things up.

Seriously, if Joey wasn't a duffus, why would he even put out the petitions? He had to know that the party didn't want him in that spot.

And to slink away from it like a spanked puppy when Eddie told him to, tells you a little about the guy.

That's a good point.

But knowing Ed, he has his next two election cycles planned, and I think her holding that spot is integral to those plans.

Time will tell.
