I'm switching to CNBC; since this is the major financial district in India, I should have figured out that CNBC would cover it.

Real question is what will the US do if India and Pakistan start a shooting war with each other.

Not a happy thought!

CNBC: Terrorism expert says there's a Pakistani based terrorist group which operates in Kashmir and the group that finances them, Dawood Ibraham (sp?) who is a don, Mafiosi of India and also a jihadist who works with Al Qaeda. Experts think those two suspects are at the top of the US list right now.

Expert continues:

Prior to the train attacks, there were attacks in Kashmir where a lot of terrorism has taken place in the past.

This is the 4th time in the last 13 years that we've had a terrorist attack in the financial district in India. It's the biggest target in the world historically.

Multiple bombs, complex timing, transportation targets...seems like a "slam dunk" to me.

Man, the world is a tinderbox right now.

Interesting analogy. Like a grass fire, the fuel has to dry out over a long time before it ignites. It's been a long buildup.

CNBC: Believe Dawood is in Dubai. US Government has categorized him as a terrorist and it was big news in India a few months ago.

Maybe if the NYT's had not revealed worldwide anti terrorist measures this would not have happened.

Tuesday, July 11, 2006 (Mumbai):

At least 60 people are feared killed in the series of blasts that rocked Mumbai today.

Seven blasts have taken place on different railway stations in the city.

Mumbai Police Commissioner A N Roy confirmed that 60 bodies have been counted at blast sites or hospitals in different places.

The first blast has been reported near Khar Railway station in Mumbai, which has left several people injured.

Terror unleashed

The incident took place at 6:09 pm (IST) in a local train from Churchgate to Borivali between Khar and Mahim stations on the Western Line.

The second blast was reported at Mahim station, while the third blast took place at Bhayandar station near Mira Road.

Soon after, the fourth blast was reported from Jogeshwari, while the fifth one took place at Matunga.

The sixth blast took place near Bhayander station, while the seventh was reported from Santacruz station.

Many commuters were stranded after the explosions and the western lines have also been cordoned off. Additional buses have been deployed in Mumbai to cope with the situation.

The blasts were targeted at commuters in the suburbs. It took place in the first class coaches during rush hour.

Mumbai airport has also been put on alert.

Planned attacks

Some of the injured have been taken to Lilavati hospital while others have been taken to Cooper and Hinduja hospitals.

The Home Ministry has said that the terror attacks have been planned. High intensity explosives have been used in the attack.

In its wake, a countrywide alert has been sounded.

The police will be verifying the nature of blasts. The IB is also probing the link between the blasts at Srinagar and Mumbai.

However, Home Secretary VK Duggal has said that there is no link between the blasts in the two cities.

Railway Minister Lalu Yadav will also be visiting the city to assess the situation.

Security review

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also reviewed the security situation in the wake of the series of bomb blasts in Mumbai and Srinagar.

Home Minister Shivraj Patil, National Security Adviser M K Narayanan and Home Secretary V K Duggal attended the specially convened meeting in New Delhi.

The meeting is also understood to have reviewed the situation in Jammu and Kashmir where militants carried out a string of grenade attacks within the space of three hours in Srinagar.

At least eight persons, including six tourists from West Bengal, were killed in Srinagar blasts. (With PTI inputs)
