That is what I thought you were doing. And it is a very good point to make. People hear history all the time without putting it in the correct time or perspective. Just get a hot thread about Martin Luther started. All the "he was an anti-semetic" stories start pouring in. Of course, they never point out that the writings they are talking about related to one particular group that was attacking the Christians at the time. It is like an author discussing a black gang problem in a certain neighborhood of a certain city during a certain period of time and leaping to the conclusion that the author was grand poohbah of the KKK or something.

And on another note. My hubby is of Spanish descent...not from Mexico but from Spain. I am so tired of "dumb" people who have no clue that there is even a country of Spain full of Spanish people. Which leads me back to not being surprised when they have no context of who ruled who when.

I really like your description of the issue, and as far as your husband being Spanish, I'll bet there are many times when he groans internally, knowing he is going to have the same conversation, and have to give the same explanation for the umpteenth time, to someone that really should know better.

Sometimes I think the average person in America has only been taught enough history, in such a way, as to instill a hatred of western civilization and little more.
