Taxpayers don't need to be doing what is private sector work.

But they did when it was adult stem cells. The work you cite as succesful started back in the 1960s with government grants at universities. Only now is it maturing to the point that private companies are willing to look into the ROI.

Asking companies to take on a 40-year project means it will get nowhere. It was the same with the space program, but now we are seeing the economic payoffs of government funded space exploration.

Sometimes government does need to step up and spend money to push innovation.

Embryonic stem cell harvesting kills all innocents.

Those poor little innocent blobs of proteinic goo.

Love the way this topic uncovers the Pseudo Conservatives. Big Govt is "Bad" up to the point one of them wants something. Then Govt MUST do what ever it can to grant their personal whimsy. Sorry rationalize it all you want Govt does NOT need to "push innovation" The Market does that just fine and their is NO benefit to Embryonic Stem Cell research. None.

Embryonic Stem cells is NOT innovation. There is nothing gained by adding Embryonic stem cells to the work all ready being done with Adult Stem Cells. All the innovation and progress has come from the Adult Stem Cell work.

The ONLY reason to push Embryonic Stem Cells is a political. Outlawing Embryonic Stem Cell research establishes the principal of Embryos as the 1st step in life. Thus the next logical step is to reconsider Abortion.

Since Abortion is the Sacrament of the Church of Liberalism, it defenders must feverish fight anything that might impinge on their wholly right.

Embryonic Stem Cells are not about progress, Adult Stem Cells got that covered. Embryonic Stem Cells is wholly and sole politics.

"Those poor little innocent blobs of proteinic goo."

Well, most of us started out this way. I would wager you did too.

I didn't know that adult stem research was originally funded by the taxpayers. Thank you for the information. However, if you cannot differentiate between goo and an embryo, you cannot understand the immorality of killing an embryo and why taxpayers shouldn't fund same.
