It's hard to fit 100,000 troops on a single aircraft carrier.

Why do we need 100,000 troops in Europe? Just curious. We can reach any point on the globe with our missiles, we have aircraft carriers and nuclear subs all over. We have bases in areas of conflict or potential conflict. Bases in Europe (esp. Western Europe) make no sense to me. At least not at the billion $/yr price tag.
