The story says that the pilot reported hydraulic problems in the air...

I bet the wet weather prevented any ignition...if it were a hot summer day there most likely would have been a different outcome!

Jet fuel is really hard to ignite when it is in its liquid state. Take a bucket of it and toss in a match, it will put the match out.

Now if you have jet fuel mist or vapor, it will go off like a fuel air explosive.
