David Brooks of the New York Times has been on a quite an anti-liberal blogosphere roll of late. After eviscerating Markos Moulitsas Zuniga the proprietor of the Daily Kos in a June 25 op-ed entitled Respect Must be Paid For, Brooks again ripped into Kos on Friday nights The News Hour on PBS (video link courtesy of Crooks and Liars). Brooks followed this up with another op-ed tangentially on this subject Sunday.
On Friday evening, the discussion between host Jim Lehrer, Mark Shields, and Brooks centered around Joe Liebermans problems in Connecticut. Lehrer asked Brooks how Lieberman is impacting the 2008 presidential campaign. Brooks responded (emphasis mine):
Well he's made life difficult especially for Hillary Clinton. Because in my conversations --we're talking about the netsroots [sic], who are the real problems for Lieberman, people generated by the Daily Kos and other web sites-- I find privately most of the Democrats despise those people because of the way they practice politics so viciously that they don't want to get in the crosshairs. And they don't want to offend the liberal base of primary voters. So they want to support Joe Lieberman, but they don't want to get in the crosshairs. So a few have come out, Barbara Boxer, Joe Biden, couple others have come out strongly for him, others, Hillary Clinton has sort of been on both sides, others just won't commit.

Brooks isn't really a liberal, though, so I don't see how this is a "liberal implosion".
If Leiberman loses the Democratic primary in CT, it signals the strength of the moonbat left in politics and could spell the end of "conservative democrats".
Everyone on both sides of the political spectrum ignores the fact that all these folks are CAREER polticians, not the citizen legislature envisioned by the founding fathers.
Joe Lieberman and all the others should have been limited to a couple of terms in the house, a couple in the senate, governorship, etc. That way the cream rises to the top, but no one becomes Senator or Representative-for-life like Teddy the Swimmer or Lefty Biden (or any of our guys). They should have to actually go back out to earn a living some day (or live off the family trust fund).
Term limits, NOW!
Amen. Say it loud and often and let's hope it gathers steam with the voters.
"One the one hand, its great for Republicans for the moombats to gain ascendancy in the RATS Party.
On the other hand, I'd be happy to see the vapid Kos and his UNmerry men get yet another clobbering, and take their record of winning to 0-21."
Sounds like a Win-Win.

"conservative democrats".
It would be great if the Democrats imploded into the left wing fringe and left the GOP effectively unopposed -- but only for a time. Human nature would rear its ugly head soon enough, and the GOP would move to fill the center (i.e.: center-left) vacuum, and cease to be a Conservative party.
We have seen hints of this already. As the GOP has become more entrenched in the House and Senate, its leaders and members have gotten comfortable there. Like their Democrat predecessors, GOP members have quickly learned to pander and buy votes -- anything to help them stay there. We must be careful not to "broaden our base" so much that we abandon our Conservative principles.
It is satisfying to watch the Democrats struggle to hold together their splintering base of disparate consituencies. But I am concerned that an unopposed GOP will in time become just another corrupt, entrenched majority. To avoid this fate, we must resist the temptation to placate the left, and continue to nominate principled Conservatives.
Ann Coulter (and others) has been saying for years that the Democracts have elevated to high art the practice of lying to the American people about what they truely believe on the issues, as they're afraid if the truth gets out they'll be hanging from lamp posts. Sounds from Brooks comments like they've begun lying to their own base now as well.
