China, Pak missiles challenge India --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NDTV Correspondent

Sunday, July 9, 2006 (New Delhi):

India faces a missile threat from Pakistan on the West and China to the North East.

The Pakistani missile programme is a fascinating example of blatant missile proliferation from North Korea and China.

Pakistan's nuclear capable missiles have the names of Muslim leaders who invaded India but are in fact, little more than direct imports from Beijing and Pyong Yang.

The Shaheen Missile sometimes referred to as the Hatf 3 is in fact the Chinese M-11 missile with a range of 300 kilometres.

The Shaheen I is thought to be the Chinese M-9 with a range of 800 kms and the much more capable Shaheen II is the Chinese M-18 with a range of 2000 kms.

There is the Ghauri missile thought to be the Korean Nodong with a range of up to 1500 kms and then the Ghauri III possibly the Korean Taepodong, which has a range of 2,500 kms.

China far ahead

China is far ahead of India in its missile programmme and has the strategic reach to target any spot in India.

China's first operational ballistic missile was the DF-2 with a range of 1,250 kms and it had entered service way back in 1966.

China also operates cruise missiles and submarine launched ballistic missiles.

There are several other missiles including the technologically advanced df-11 or M-11, the df-15, or M9, the df-21 and the M-18.

Indian warheads

India's Agni series of missiles have ranges from 800 kms to 3500 kms and the Prithvi series from 150 to 600 kms.

The Dhanush ballistic missile is based on the Prithvi missile and can be fired from a warship.

Build a positive relationship with India and allow Japan to have nukes. That could help keep China at bay.

Groan!
It's positively raining missiles recently.
Everyone and their mother's son is shooting of missiles all over the place.
Very good thing President Bush put aside the ABM treaty, and went full speed ahead to develop anti ballistic missiles, against very strong RATS objections, with the RATS voting overwhelmingly to stop America developing missiles to shoot down missiles.

Yet another reason why we should never hand over this country to the RATS.

this is getting cereal!

Seriously, the Communist are taking advantage of the WOT to reassert their place on the world stage

With all this talk about nukes flying here and there, our pillar of Presidential wisdom Ronald Reagan is looking more and more great as Star Wars technology is needed now more than ever.

What a Great man he was!

It's a good thing that India is included in PAC-3 defense systems. Maybe Indian design engineers will even help to add to their effectiveness.

you know the irony of the situation? pakistan was a part of India when these muslim invaders attacked us. so, the pakistanis are actually praising/ass-licking the very people who pillaged, raped and murdered their ancestors.

Atleast it will work not like those NKom Missiles that will probably blow up 45 seconds after launch.

It was disappointing to hear that the recent test of the nuclear capable missile failed, according to news source. I wonder if US could export some of the old ICBMs to India, as a phase before India to develop its own and get it on the factory line.

Yes & No!!The test is not considered an outright failure-problems developed which are to be & can be rectified.Developing upper end IRBMs with possible SLBM applications is no easy task. Most nations have problems with those.
