You have to have worked in Law enforcement or Medicine to know the real Tin Foil crowd. They will tell the Police Officer that shows up to investigate their 911 call( about someone in the House or Apartment that is not allowed or a stranger) and there is nobody there, and never was. They describe very vividly,are very upset and there is nobody there. Some just hear voices and cannot find where they are coming from. You always have to respond to the call because the one time you don't respond, that will be when there is actually a Burglar or Home invader. Freepers say it "tongue in Cheek" about themselves.
I drove ambulances in and around NY City in the late 60s and early 70s.
And yes, your description is spot on.
I have a comment that I still use when someone is out of control: "500 CCs of thorazine ought to be about right." I said that about my kids more than once as they were growing up! (no, we never actually did that!)
I also occassionally post "put the mouse down, step away from the keyboard and keep your hands where I can see them" to trolls and the like.
And there are definitely times I miss having the Posey restraints handy <g>
