The Sunday Show Review
By: Mark Kilmer · Section: Other Politics
Sunday, June 9, 2006.Tim Russert was in form again this week on Meet the Press. I wanted to say "rare form," but it's a common form, insisting that his Republican guests do what Clinton did and/or what the Dems demand. Under Secretary of State Nick Burns told him that our negotiating track with Pyongyang had a "reasonable chance of success." Later on the same show, former Clinton hands Bob Gallucci, Ashton Carter, and Bill Richardson demanded on-on-one talks with
NJNK. [Talks with Kim rather than Corzine. -mak] Russert played gotcha with the all-knowing Richardson, pointing out that the New Mexico governor had predicted that NK would not test missiles. Richard denied saying it. Russert quoted him, then Richardson indicated that he had said something else earlier on CBS.On FOX News Sunday, Burns stated that we were much better off, vis-à-vis Iran, than we were four years ago, in that the apparatus was in place to back them off. The former Clinton hands James Woolsey and Wendy Sherman appeared opposite House Intelligence Committee Chairman Pete Hoekstra. Woolsey commented about NK stealing the PRC's trains. Sherman insisted that the '94 Clinton/Albright agreement with North Korea was a success because it prevented NK from having 50 nukes instead of eight. Hoekstra asked them to stop playing the "political blame game" and concentrate on North Korea.
Burns told Bob Schieffer on CBS' Face the Nation that we have to isolate North Korea. He had earlier argued that they were already isolated. John McCain came on next and called the PRC diplomatically "immature." He repeated his disdain for Russia, as well. Chris Dodd walked in and declared that diplomacy is not a sign of weakness.
On CNN's Late Edition, host Wolf Blitzer asked Burns if he were "absolutely, positively" certain that NK had nukes. Burns replied that they tell us they do. He talked to Al Haig and Zbigniew Brzezinski. Haig thinks NK probably does have nukes, but they're probably crude and they might not work properly. Brzezinski posited that we should talk about this in the G8 in St. Petersburg later this month, but we should also discuss it with the G7. This would let the Russians know that they weren't really part of the group.

And, that is also one reason that Martinez, though a Republican is coming out for a "comprehensive = amnesty" immigration plan...
NOT just because he has an Hispanic last name...but, the businesses in Florida are probably begging him for help in NOT running their employee pool out of the country.
It is that same way in Arizona (hotels, motels, restaurants, construction)..California, Nevada, Texas, Louisiana..
Also, the New England seaboard area..for the hospitality industry.
Bloomberg said the other day that New York would basically have to shut down..if the illegals were all deported.
I don't want this to become an immigration debate thread...but, the orange crops problems was on Fox News..
AND, with the Congress coming back into session this week...no telling what is going to happen.
From what has been reported...it seems like the Senate and POTUS are coming more towards the House version..which is good for a start.
Actually, this is one topic that I think benefits us to be on the docket this close to an election....those that want to win, SHOULD be strong on the border control first.
Now Sir! Just one cotton-pickin' minute. Do NOT go insulting my fair state by associating it with that idiot media pick from Illinois!!!!!
Alabama! He should be so lucky!
hehe.
Well, sorta, kinda. It's a bit of a mess it seems. Kerry won't back Lieberman. Boxer will campaign for him. How to make sense of it all. I am just hoping for an imploxion. Remember the Kos comment: We bought this part, we own it.
I am actually rubbing my hands together in anticipation of dem's just going GOOFY between now and November.
They keep talking about how poorly the Republicans will do because of President Bush...but, at least they are all together running away from Bush..
The dems are running in so many directions it is like a 3 Stooges skit.
I was just channel surfing and caught a few minutes of Dim Russert on MTP. I can't stand him, so don't watch his show anymore. But....and I know its catty....but my goodness, has he gotten FAT! He has such a big round face, sticking out of his suit, no neck, he looks as ridiculous as he sounds (meow). :-)
Oh, dear...I just looked at the schedule for C-span tomorrow.
LOL..at 1:30 EDT..on C-span 3....Sens. Bingamen and REID are having one of those Democrats only hearings about Terror funding..or something...
At 1:00 EDT...Sen. Specter will be at the Press Club giving the Republican Agenda....uh boy.
Later, at 2:00 EDT...the Senate and the House are scheduled for 6 hours each.
Let's see, the first 20 minutes of the Senate will be Reid's list of all of Bush's sins from 2000-NOW.
Frist will get up and hummanahummanahummana...blech
LOL...don't worry about being catty...
I have been calling him Fat Timmah for a while..
It must be all of those book tours he has been taking..
First he writes a book about his Dad...Book Tour.
then, it comes out in paperback...Book Tour.
Now, he writes a book about the first book....Book Tour.
At this rate he will be 400 pounds....hehe
LOL. Okay, it's late and I have to go to bed after a very nice day with my girls, and your entire post brought a smile to my face and gave me a good laugh.
I know one thing...I have been worn out on the whole subject..and kind of got to the point where I just didn't care anymore, WHAT they did...
But, when I heard that in the Mexican elections last week..that ANYONE that voted had to have PICTURE ID...and yet the civil rights groups in America are excoriating the conservatives for expecting THAT SAME requirement here!!
jeez louise, that got me mad again...
The immigration policy in Mexico is hard ass (scuse the language)...and so is the election policy.
BUT, here, if we want to have the SAME system..even the Mexican goverment gets mad at US!!!
GRRRRRRRRRRR..
Now you have done it...got me all mad again...LOL
I thought he showed a lot of bias today.
I thought so too...more than usual.
I hate it when the pundits talk over each other..but to have the darn host of the show, talk over the main guest, is disgusting.
I've never sat out an election in my life, but if the Republicans are crazy enought to nominate John McCain as our candidate, I will stay home this time. The man is as crazy as Carter.
