#366, that is a good question.
The primary fiscal and industrial center for South Korea is Seoul. It is 30 miles from the DMZ. Any war with the North is going to do serious damage to the economic life of South Korea no matter how short or violent. South Korea is basically Finlandized. It is held hostage by the North Korea Artillery and rockets that can pretty much wreck Seoul in a very short time frame. How quick to go to war would we be if we new Wall Street and Detroit was pretty much guaranteed to be destroyed in the opening strikes of the war?

Rush was talking about it this week as well. Wendy Sherman is one of the partners, along with several other Clintonistas who are making the "desperate spin" rounds of the talking head shows recently.
It's also why one of the methods Richardson suggests now in dealing with NK is to appease them by giving them stuff. If we do its parallels what he did during bubbas adm and wala, he's off the hook.
Trouble is GW is not stupid he won't go there.
Of course, New Mexico has a lot to offer, but this is the first I have heard about its being a center for Cardiac Surgery. Mayo Clinic at Taos, perhaps. Johns Hopkins of Albuquerque?
Great point about Koizumi's term being up.
I was talking to my husband yesterday...and I pointed out to him...that since 9/11...AZNAR, from Spain lost his reelection..
Canada has elected a new PM...Italy has changed leaders, so has Germany, Mexico is changing leaders.
This is Bush's last few years, Koizumi's last few (months?)..Putin's last term, Tony Blair's last term...
Chirac is ineffectual and is probably on his way out...
ALL of the WORLD LEADERS, except Australia's John Howard...and the leaders that are tyrannical, that were in power during 9/11...are going to be GONE!!
The future of the world is in a precarious position of the new leaders don't AT LEAST work together, let alone, totally cave, and appease the terrorists.
right?
There has been a soundbite..probably on Rush...of Maddy talking about how Lil Kim wanted to keep exchanging e-mails...perhaps they have.
He gave Kim millions plus a nuclear reactor and kim starved his people(at least a million according to smallest estimates) and developed the reactor until he had enough uranium for a bomb.
Bubba just like, with Ben Laden, had the chance to take Kim out but he was too stupid or too "otherwise" occupied. What a disaster of a president, and they want to desperately come back and do it all over again.
Very true...but, not helpful in the NEWS.
Quietly, between the two countries..I can see that..but all this does is let Lil Kim know that the 6 parties are not even on the same page, which gives him more leverage, no?
Great post MNJ, it shows just how difficult a job GW has in this high stakes chess game.
He's a "moderate", all right. Back in the three channel world, he was one of the few media voices that conservatives had, and even then I had no respect for him because he never went nose-to-nose with Sam or Cokie. He said his prissy piece and then they just went on talking as if he wasn't even there. Sometimes Cokie did not even wait until he finished talking, she displayed his irrelevancy so clearly.

The Letter: http://www.nytimes.com/packages/pdf/national/20060709hoekstra.pdf
Chris Wallace did not ask Hoekstra how the NYT got the letter. IMO, the importance of the method of receipt exceeds the contents, although, there are some interesting tidbits that the NYT chose not to include in their report.
Here's the one from April

Has to be Clovis General... kidding.
So, what did your husband say to all that? (Other than, "We're all gonna die!")
You live in Al, NM? When I rotated out I tood the test for trooper there... man that altitude. Then my loving husband decided he wanted to come back to NY.
I'm not going to bash him for what he said, I'm going to bash him because he said it. He is one of the first to jump on any conservative who says anything the least controversial.
It's not what he said, it's the fact that he's a moron, proved by the fact that he said it.
(I know, that's circular logic, but it explains my position... such as it is) ;^>
