It's very disconcerting to see the number of churches and other religious organizations (e.g., the local branch of the American Bible Society) in our blue state area that claim that they represent "progressive Christianity", and not that "bigoted", "boring" and "outmoded" orthodox or fundamentalist variety. Even several ELCA Lutheran churches that I used to belong to when I lived in other parts of the country also raise the banner of "progressive Christianity", and hold forums and seminars on such "theologians" as Spong and Borg.
The there is the threefold "progressive" progam of our ELCA mis-leaders in Chicago, including the feminazi, anti-Trinitarian new hymnal, "how-to-read-the Bible-like-a-"progressive", and the ever metastasizing gaysbian agenda. Our mis-leaders also have no plans to abrogate the "full communion" agreements with the fast-disintegrating and heretcal Episcopal and Presbyterian/UCC, etc.. "churches" either.
I have news for all these instututions and people. "Progressive Christianity" is no more Christianity than same-sex "marriage" is marriage!!!! As my Serbian Orthodox priest says, "progressive" "churches" are not churches, but CLUBS!!!! It is "Progressive Christianity" that is boring and outmoded--it is stuck in the 1970s!!!!
"Progressive Christianity" has NO appeal to anyone younger that the youngest Boomers. They are just plain NOT INTERESTED in 1970's issues like neutering or feminizing God-language, or those BORING 1970s-style "liturgies" and "hymns". And many younger people go beyond that, by being interested in orthodox (or even Orthodox) Christianity!!!!
"Progressive Christianity" is totally BOGUS, and headed for the scrap-heap! And the election of Jefferts-Schori and the shenannigans at that Presbyterian convention have acclerated the decline and eventual death of "Progressive Christianity" by at least a decade!!!!

Progressive?
Is that like cancer that progressively grows worse until it is terminal?
I saw the path that the liberal leadership was steering the ELCA onto and it is not the path that the Jesus Christ Almighty whom I was raised to believe in would have us trod.
As to the "moral clarity" of the Catholic Church that "notwithstanding" trumpets, if it makes him/her happy, then leave him/her be. We have a vicious enemy in Islam to deal with and bickering between us will just make it easier for the Islamonazis to defeat us all.
I believe that the Christian Church is undergoing a new revival. The liberal hi-jacking will result in their controling an empty shell. The true believers will group together, and no, I do not mean all return to "notwithstanding"'s church of "moral clarity", but to church's of like-minded believers who will raise up their churches as the empty shells taken by the liberals wither and fall.
Love that quote. The ELCA is no longer Christian, no longer Lutheran, and not really a "church". But it is in America, so I guess than can keep the name /sarcasm. On a side note, have you converted to the SOC yet or are you still attending?
