Important and necessary distinctions, all.  Too bad this poorly-written AFP article mixes the terms and doesn't specify whether a whip or a cane is used. 

The fact that people who write so very poorly are even allowed to have a job as a journalist speaks volumes as to the state of journalism and the MSM in general.
