The resulting burning of the fuel and sudden added weight resulted in the steel trusses melting, and then giving way, creating a multiton domino effect from floor to floor. The sudden weight caused the external structure to bow and break, thus the collapes. The rabbit cage also wasn't on fire for more than a few minutes, unlike the towers.

They did not even have to get the temperature up enough to melt the steel, just enough to heat the beams to the yield point, which is significantly lower.
