Ukraine's socialists accuse president over coalition collapse

KIEV, July 7 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine's Socialist Party blames President Viktor Yushchenko for a virtual collapse of a coalition majority formed in the country's parliament in June, a party member said Friday.

Ivan Boky said, "The president ruined the coalition by nominating Petro Poroshenko for the post of [Supreme Rada] speaker."

The coalition of Western-leaning forces broke up when the Party of Regions, holding 186 seats in the Rada, and the Socialist and Communist parties with 33 and 21 seats respectively joined forces late Thursday to elect Socialist leader Oleksandr Moroz as speaker.

The three parties are currently holding talks on the formation of a new parliamentary coalition.

Boky said anarchy followed the collapse of the "orange" coalition that "ruined the economy and created political instability."

"Therefore, we had to assume responsibility and search for a way out of this situation," he added.

The Socialists were accused of breaching an agreement with its "orange" allies, pro-presidential Our Ukraine grouping and the bloc led by Yulia Tymoshenko, who was Ukraine's prime minister for eight months last year and is aspiring to the post again. The "orange" coalition, made up of the three parties that propelled Viktor Yushchenko to the presidency in the "orange revolution" of 2004, earlier planned Poroshenko, an Our Ukraine candidate, as Rada speaker.

Tymoshenko said earlier Friday that the "orange" coalition had ceased to exist and urged President Viktor Yushchenko to either approve a new coalition or dissolve the Rada.

The Rada, meanwhile, is to form the government by July 22. After this deadline the president is entitled to dissolve legislature and call new elections.

This is what Yushchenko gets for allying himself with Socialists and Communists -- elements notoriously opposed to individual liberty and Westernization. Alas, this will mean that the Orange Revolution's accomplishments will be undone, and Ukraine will once again be under the influence of the neo-socialist Putin regime.

Let's see what emerges. Of course you are right. You shouldn't ever trust socialists. That's like trusting Howard Dean and Hillary Clinton.

"I'm sure you see the contradiction in your own statement???"

There is no contradiction; one cannot defeat socialism (Putin and Yanukovich) by allying oneself with other socialists (the Socialists and Communists of Ukraine).

Well, you lose the argument quickly when you show that you do not understand who the socialists are and what socialism is.

The communists and socialists of Ukraine are the pro-Putin pro-Russia anti-America side. Putin supports communists all over the world from Kim Jong-Il to Hugo Chavez.

Socialism is how Putin controls all of Russia's natural energy resources and uses them as a weapon of intimidation and blackmail to punish his neighbors with if they dare to side with the USA instead of neo-imperialist Russia.

Believe me or not but I think that most Freepers pay little attention wherever you like their posting or not. Take me for example. Your impressions are unimportant.

The Socialists of Ukraine are more in line with Yushenko - see: Moroz. Try getting your facts straight. None of you have even come close to defining what socialism is and which politicians are socialists. You're arguments are lost because you cannot even properly label the people you are discussing.

You wrongly label a neo-Empirist (note - not "Imperialist" - yet) Putin as socialist. You also wrongly analyze the situation vis-a-vis energy. Check into our Allies' gas/oil company backgrounds and you'll find not only are a lot of them state-owned, unlike Russia, the citizenry has zero right to invest in them.

CAPITALISM is a country expecting those with whom they trade to take such goods a FAIR MARKET RATE. SOCIALISM is when countries DEMAND a cut-rate government subsidized GAS/OIL supply. Now, TGJ, perhaps you can redefine just who the socialists are and who the capitalists are. If a country was making demands of the US like Ukraine, Georgia, etc., made of the Russians you would be in a blather.

Maybe you didn't read the article, Moroz and his socialists have defected to Yanukovych's side, where all the die-hard communists have always been. He did so precisely because of his differences with Yushchenko who would not back down to the socialist agenda.

Prices set by governments are not set by the free market. Capitalism controlled by government run corporations is also know as Corporate Socialism: FASCISM.

To further elaborate: In a real free market, the consumer can always take his business elsewhere. Competition drives down prices. Russia's Gazprom however, is a monopoly. All competition has been nationalized or driven out of business by the state. Monopolies always hurt the consumer. Russia's government can demand any price they want precisely because market forces are not in play.
