Specter Says He’ll Probably Run in 2010 By Chris Forshey Jul 7, 2006, 13:32

Senator Arlen Specter (R) Pennsylvania Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter says he’s not ruling out making a run for re-election in 2010.

Appearing this morning on WRTA’s Two-Way Radio program with Jason High, Specter said if his health holds up, he’ll probably go for it. Specter, Pennsylvania's senior U.S. Senator, was first elected to the Senate in 1980 and is currently serving his fifth term.

He is currently in remission after a recent battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and has been symptom free. Specter says he’s one step away from being chairman of the appropriations committee, and that could mean good things for Pennsylvania. He says his seniority will be important to the state.

Ask about another political run against someone such as Pat Toomey, who came close to beating him in 2004, Specter said he’s ready for the challenge. Specter also says he will be canvassing the state giving his support to fellow Republican Senator Rick Santorum, who faces a tough re-election bid against Democratic State Auditor General Bob Casey.

Mine as well. And, it could also wind up hurting Santorum since he can now be asked whether he'll support Arlen again in 2010. It could reignite the bad feelings from the Specter/Toomey race.

All of these oldtimers should hang it up. Who keeps voting for these old codgers? They've been "civil servants" way too long to be effective. The only people they represent are themselves.

I wouldn't count him out. He courts the Philly Democrat voters in the primary, which is how he beat Toomey. And, as we've seen with Senator Chaffee, Specter will be able to count on NRSC support even though the party can't expect Specter's support on most any issue of importance.

Yeah, of course not. The guy has only won five times in Pennsylvania, a record in the state's history. Of course he won't win again.

Arlen, go home already! Spend some of your old age with your family, and stop screwing up our judiciary and the rest of the country...pretty please!

All of these oldtimers should hang it up.

Have to agree.

Kennedy, Lott, Feinstein, Boxer, Stevens, Burns, Rockerfeller, Byrd, McCain, Grassley, Bunning, Leahy, Harkin, and a bunch more of the old geezers need to go on both sides.

It is not even political with me. These guys are too old.

I'm in Pennsylvania and if he chooses to battle for reelection in 2010 I will vote for Hodgkin's Lymphoma ... twice if I can.
