You are correct in your assesment, that this is detrimental to both gays, and the socialist ideals. In fact, this is proof of the stupidity of both. Hmm, I've always wondered how Cuban cigars were rolled.
I don't think I'd be very gay if I lived in Cuba, or Venezuela. Despite their ridiculous mayor, I'd probably be gay most of the time if I lived in London.
When I visited Cuba in 2004 all they were interested in showing you on tours was the minor accomplishments (major according to them) of their failed socialist experiment. When I asked them about the crumbling houses and Spanish Architecture they looked pretty embarrassed.
The last thing you would have seen is guys holding hands, they would have been reprimanded by the secret policeman on the street corner, gay and Cuba don't go together!!

IIRC Castro quarantined HIV/AIDS patients years ago. I wonder how that squares with a gay revolution?
