There was no contrition. This guy goes up to the father, says that his son killed his girlfriend and the response is, "Then what are you doing here?" Even in denial, a decent person would've said, "I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my son that day too. But it was not he who killed her. However, be that as it may, I still grieve for him as you grieve for her. And I am sorry for your loss." Then all the rest of his philistine relatives come out and ask the guy to leave. No contrition whatsoever.
Worst headline of the week.
No, there was not.
The whole story feels like Kabuki theater to me.
I'm angry because most muslims I've dealt with are like those two. They act the role, they CAN'T understand. "How did this happen?", they ask. "It was too much for him to handle."
I think their way of bring extravagantly emotional, is something they want us to accept as contrition. In reality they don't give a damn, except that it puts their personal situation in peril.
Contrition must be real and sincere sorrow of heart, and not merely an external manifestation of repentance.
I can see an argument for why you might think the father of the suicide bomber might show contrition.
I can't quite fathom why you think that the families and loved one of the victims of the attacks need to show 'contrition' however?
Non-Muslims are so gullible! It is impossible to believe that the family didn't see signs of their son turning into a hate-filled monster, or that he didn't express his hatred for non-Muslims. They also probably heard the same hateful words from the same Imam. They're all guilty for not doing something about it.
Wonderful reduction to the essence.
Because they are, above all, Muslim. The girlfriend is, sadly, secondary and expendable.
Uh-oh, looks like I've added more phrases to the cyber-lexicon!! ;)
(I guess that includes 'cyber-lexicon'....)
"Because they are, above all, Muslim. The girlfriend is, sadly, secondary and expendable."
What on earth are you on about?
And, suddenly, I've realised why the argument that all Muslims should somehow have to feel guilt and contrition for the actions of Islamist terrorists sounds familiar. It's been bugging me for a while. It's very reminiscent of the tosh that we've heard from hardline feminists for years that all men should feel guilt for rapes that are perpetrated on women.
You're a legend!
I'm not really - I didn't coin these phrases, just popularised them!!
