Bomb tunnel, flood city
NY Daily News ^ | July 7, 2006 | ALLISON GENDAR and JAMES GORDON MEEK

The FBI has uncovered what officials consider a serious plot by jihadists to bomb the Holland Tunnel in hopes of causing a torrent of water to deluge lower Manhattan, the Daily News has learned. The terrorists sought to drown the Financial District as New Orleans was by Hurricane Katrina, sources said. They also wanted to attack subways and other tunnels.

Counterterrorism officials are alarmed by the "lone wolf" terror plot because they allegedly got a pledge of financial and tactical support from Jordanian associates of top terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi before he was killed in Iraq, a counterterrorism source told The News.

Later in the article it states, "the FBI discovered the plot by monitoring internet chat rooms[.]" If the ACLU and the DemonRats had their way such monitoring wouldn't be allowed and we could soon end up with thousands more dead in NYC and a devastated economy.

Apparently the terrorist haven’t seen Al Gore's movie An Inconvenient Truth. Because according to Gore, Manhattan would very soon be under water anyway because of global warming.

Someone needs to explain how flooding a tunnel would flood the city which is above the tunnel and the water level. I don't get it.

Chuck Schumer was out early this morning making sure that all the credit went to the "intelligence services", that no credit went to the administration, and also to note how stupid these people were (I presume so we wouldn't think it was a big deal that we caught them).

Oh, and also somehow he made this into another reason New York should get all the homeland security money.

"Experts also said that even if the tunnel cracked, the Financial District would not be flooded because it is above the level of the river."

Fortunately, terrorists are not particularly good at physics.

Someone on Fox just now was saying that the terrorists somehow thought Manhattan was more like New Orleans--below sea level. Seems a trip to the library to look these things up might have enlightened them on that point.

Thank goodness this bunch was dumber 'n' rocks.

It doesn't matter what would have really happened. It was their "good" INTENTIONS that the city would have flooded.

It wouldn't flood Manhattan, but traffic would be insane for quite a while.

Some would no doubt try for the Lincoln Tunnel. Mistake. Better to take the Brooklyn Bridge to the BQE and pick up the Verrazzano, across SI and into Jersey etc.

maybe we need to build an emergency dike-and-drain system to pump the water out of lower Manhattan, (and into the New York Times building....)

That appears to be the case but I wonder, how smart were the guys that took down two of our tallest buildings? Did they just get lucky three times? Of course if we are to believe the DU conspiracists, the planes were holograms controlled by our gov.

but but but but michael moore says there is no terrorist threat!

So the FBI is using chatrooms now because following their finances won't work anymore? (Thanks NYT!)

Shhhh don't give the terrorist any ideas... now they are going to buy a case of aresol hair spray and let them loose to quicken the global warming effect to effectively sink Manhattan!

Right! And apparently they learn from their mistakes: the first World Trade Center bombing showed them what was wrong with their plan. If at first you don't succeed, . . . .
