Wow. They are starting to look like spaceships.

Many moons ago I was in a Lockheed Skunk building. Unclassified of course with an escort who had a police emergency light spinning and a big 'Shut up. Stooges Present.' sign. Walked past an emergency door with the following sign on it.

'Use of this emergency exit during a non-emergency will result in the termination of the employee.'

That is when you realize, whoa. These guys is serious. Although I never experienced it, had heard stories about computer field engineers who had been handcuffed into a wheel chair. Blindfolded. And then manually taken to the broke puter. Never figured out if those stories were BS or real.

I was calibrating a Milstar test set a few years ago at A TRW facility. I had to walk through a computer lab to get to the room I need to get to. I had to be let into the room and escorted through. There were about 25 computer guys working in there. They all had to turn off their monitors even though the monitors were facing away from me. Then they all had to turn their chairs and face away from me as I walked through.

Now the missle factory outside of Denver had some real security.

Naah. Really serious security would mean somewhat more ominous significance for that warning. And you simply can't have that sort of security in USA. Saddam's Iraq, possibly. Or North Korea...

Probably not. If there are computers, then there are guys with the proper clearance to work on them.

Actually, what you describe is not far fetched. I worked for HP in Southern California a few careers ago. I serviced a TRW location just south of LAX. The location where the movie "Falcon and the Snowman" was based if you have seen that. Generally speaking, the equipment I serviced was being used for satellite communications. Many times, when I arrived for a service visit, they would just meet at the front with the broken part. On the rare occasion I had to go in and fix something, they would blindfold me and lead me around in very circuitous routes and eventually down 4 to 5 levels (below ground level) in an elevator. Once at the equipment location, they would take the blindfold off when I was right in front of the machine to repair. All monitors in the room would have covers on them and the vertical blinds would be closed so I could see nothing outside the equipment room. There were always at least five people with me. They were as friendly as a bear with hemorrhoid. While mysterious, it was not at all pleasant.
