I don't see how this woman calls herself a parent giving unconditional love. All she did was call for the nanny state to intervene. Seems like she washed her hands of him. I think he's got a future in foster homes.

Without knowing more about the case, I disagree. She needs help and so does this child. It's obviously more than she can do alone. Maybe with some intervention now, a delinquent can be prevented. Unconditional love does not mean turning a blind eye. It means discipline... maybe the kind provided by the state. It just depends...

Well, she can't give hime the beating he deserves. If she does, she'll get in trouble for child abuse, end up in jail herself, and lose custody of her other child. It sounds to me like this kid may need to spend some time in one of those juvenile boot camps, or maybe just ship his little bad self off to military boarding school.

I think she did a smart thing. She literally couldn't keep him from doing serious harm to others, or from stealing and vandalizing all over the neighborhood, without doing things that would get her arrested and result in BOTH her kids ending up in foster care. Used to be that parents could keep kids like this locked up 24/7 if need be, and give them good sound whuppings too. Can't do that anymore.

A few years back there was a family (two parents) in New Jersey who had begged the juvenile justice system and mental health system to take their son and lock him up, because they just couldn't handle him. He was about 12 IIRC, and his behavior had gone sour after he'd been molested by an adult man. But the authorities refused to take the kid. Of course AFTER he murdered a much younger boy, THEN the authorities took him.

This mother wants to avoid that. Good for her. This kid may be hopelessly mentally ill, but if there's any hope for him, he urgently needs to learn that he cannot be part of a family or free community if he behaves the way he has been.

"I don't see how this woman calls herself a parent giving unconditional love."

It is very difficult to get the authorities involved with a young child. Once they are involved there is no turning back. She was desperate and had no other place to turn ,but to the state.

I hope you never have to make a decision like she did. It is the hardest thing you will ever do.

Yes, it is unconditional love.

Without any doubt I predict that this kid's only future is life in prison w/o parole. It's already too late. If he treats his mother this way what kind of treatment will foster parents get. Personally I think we'll be reading shortly about the murder of this mother. No doubt at all.
