In light of recent events with North Korea, this article from 2004 might be informative for some FReepers.

Thank heavens President Bush abrogated the ABM treated a few years back (over strong RATS objections), and started vigorously pursuing the ABM program.
We'd have been left scrambling by this madman from North Korea by now.

"It is reportedly being tested in Iran" A third good reason to level now - answer questions later.

Certainly the weapon makes a mockery of former President Clintons attempts to bribe Pyongyang from developing missiles and underscores the unreality of basing American security on any future North Korean promises. It emphasizes the need for the United States to press ahead with missile defense and counterproliferation efforts, especially North Korean. The missile also raises significant concerns about Russian nonproliferation commitments.

I seriously think I had some bottle rockets on the 4th which stayed in flight longer than a North Korean missile.

The article talks about how they could conceal these missles on a "cargo ship".
There is an easy answer for that. Sink all of their cargo ships when they leave port.
NK is a totalitarian dictatorship. There is absolutely ZERO reason to allow such a government to exist in the 21st century.
The WORLD should establish that all governments must have democratically elected governments subject to the will of their people and any countries that refuse to comply will be open to attack.
If the WORLD does not do this, the USA should impose it.
Totalitarian dictatorships represent a clear and present danger.

Japans Toen Trading Company arranged for twelve ex-Soviet Foxtrot-class conventional attack submarines and Golf II-class conventionally powered ballistic missile submarines to be scrapped in North Korea
I'm sure the NY Times was all over this story, And What were the Japaneses thinking??? Maybe Gamera will protect them.

When is the rest of the world going to face the fact that the nutbag Iranians, North Koreans, Venezuelans, etc... are beginning to form compacts & work together to wreak havoc on the world? These assbags need to be stopped DEAD- and like yesterday!
Surely the US and Great Britain can't be the only ones alarmed about this?

Since they've test-fired a half-dozen or so, don't understand why we don't do the same thing?

After reading this, Lando, two words come to mind - good grief! Then two more words - zero tolerance. The time is come to deal with the dog eaters. We simply can't pussy foot any longer, better now than later.
To: Renkluaf
Yeah, test-firing a dozen or so cruise missiles might prove highly instructive (or should I say DEstructive) to Mr. Zipper Suit and his playmates.

If they have money for their own missiles, they have money for their own food. Even the Iranians can not compete with the quality of lies and deceptions of the N. Koreans. They take pride in their ability to hustle Westerners who they consider universally inferior.
N. Korea is a country of nobodies that has managed to capture the world's attention. Shut them down, isolate them, let them starve, air drop weapons and ammo to all the rural villages, problem solved.
To: Lando Lincoln
BTW, if we want to be taken seriously by all ICBM totin' idiots, muslim, N. Korean, whatever, we need to deploy and use our anti-missile system to the Sea of Japan. If we don't have the capability, OK, let's work on it. But the first opportunity we have we need to shoot N. Korean missiles down and send the message to Iran, etc. that they are wasting their time on missile technology.
Then they can perfect the nuke in the Greek freighter headed for Tel Aviv scenerio.
To: Lando Lincoln
The sea launch approach seems like it could be a big problem -- God bless the USN and Coast Guard.

"Thank heavens President Bush abrogated the ABM treated a few years back (over strong RATS objections), and started vigorously pursuing the ABM program.
The funny thing now is hearing the democratic pundits and other MSM talking heads now complaining (what else is new) that the Bush Administration hasn't done enough to move ABM defenses forward.

Actually, I think NK should put a nuke on top of one of their missiles and launch it. But their fearless leader should attend the launch to show his support.
