..ah.....ah....errrr, in order to keep the ..ah....realistic.... ah....believability.....ah... well, lets say to protect the weasel, I mean innocent, certain creative liberties.....ah....have been taken and we hope like hell it's a summer hit and no Micheal Moore had nothing to do with....ah....well Babs just loves it, and well, we didn't have any Muslims in it....ah....yes I'm patriotic and we support our troops

Believe it or not, when I first read Superman as a kid, New York City came to mind as the 'Metropolis' they were taling about in the comic books.
So, the NYT would make perfect sense as the 'Daily Planet'.
of course, and then margot kidder went nuts and ended up homeless. let's hope they all do.
