More smokers die than nonsmokers.

Well since EVERYONE dies, then I reckon this means there are MORE SMOKERS than non-smokers. Hold on a second, if we're the majority how come we keep getting kicked around? Let's turn the tables and make it MANDATORY that non-smokers, especially the health conscious ones, smoke at least one cigarette a day! That way we can put a stop to those apparently immortal non-smokers who never die.

I heard on the radio this morning the absurd claim that one in four women will die of breast cancer every 12 minutes.

That's about right. According to the CDC, 41,000 women died of breast cancer in the US in 2002.

While I do not pay much attention to the "news" even on Fox I also do not need to to KNOW that the US population growth rate is 0.85% per yr. This is no "explosion" no matter how you define it.

I thought you were concerned about fact.

I am concerned about fact.  But when it's broadcast several times over the past several days on Fox News, how can one dispute it?

Fox is only marginally better than the Treason Media. Apparently they don't fact check either.

I'm not laughing. His ex became addicted to meth while they were married. Sold the furniture, everything that could be hocked. When she got out of rehab, the party really started for him : ( His ex smoked, and that is probably why he's so freaked out about it. Otherwise we get along pretty good.

It's worth the time and mess to roll them myself, because I'm pleased with the taste of the tobacco. The shop owner recommended "Single Stick". At least they don't look like they did the last time I tried to roll my own. Lol, they looked like they were stuffed with something else ;-D

I agree that this report is nonsense. (I'm a 50 year smoker and don't have even a cough) It's my one and only vice and I will not give it up!

I'm with YOU!

:-)

Another layer being peeled back about this idiot in a zoot suit making big bucks in the White House.

I wish the good Lord would protect us from jerks like this.  ~sigh......

Another control freak, IMHO.  He saw a way to get his foot in the door over the smoking issue, and he has taken full advantage of it.  Now all the weak minded across the United States are believing him and taking him at face value.

Those of us in the know realize this is a very ugly joke that might not bode well toward smokers.  Just something else to make our lives most miserable.

Well, I'll be dipped. I knew Kessler was a wild-eyed ideologue and agitator.

Was this before or after (got to have been after) he got so notorious and big for his britches?

I wasn't aware Koop had fallen into difficulty, either (that's the MSM for you -- but let Rush ask his doctor for some discreetly-labeled Viagra, and I get to listen to Letterman and Robin Williams and Jay Leno riffing on it for a week), I didn't care for his politics, but he seemed upright enough. Better than Jocelyn Elders by a mile, that's for sure.

Bush's new guy sounds like a maniac, like Kesselring -- er, Kessler.

So do I. Does anyone know what this guy's "bona fides" are? Maybe I should do a google? I still find it strange that this guy has been Surgeon General for 3 yrs(?), and not a peep out of him until now. We couldn't turn on the news without seeing Jocelyn Elders and C. Everett Koop at least every couple of months. Maybe it just seemed like that, LOL!

They're trying their best to make our lives miserable, that's for sure. Waiting for them to ban smoking in a private freestanding home. They won't make tobacco illegal though. Can't kill that golden goose, dontcha know.

SUBMITTED AS A GUEST EDITORIAL

Before the SmokerNazis in the country get too excited about the new Surgeon General's report on the alleged
"dangers" of secondhhand smoke, consider this:

An article in today's Washington Post states, "The report does not present new scientific data but is an
analysis of the best research on secondhand smoke. It said, for instance, that the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention estimated last year that exposure to secondhand smoke kills more than 3,000
nonsmokers from lung cancer, approximately 46,000 from coronary heart disease, and as many as 430 newborns
from sudden infant death syndrome."

1.  This is just another "analysis" of cherry-picked, biased studies (i.e., paid for and/or written by anti-smoker activists, according to the bibliography), and not any new, unbiased scientific research.

2.  Nowhere in this report (or any other document) does it state how the 3,000 figure is obtained although this number is touted throughout the anti-smoker industry in every press release they write as if it was gospel.  Yet, it is not supported by the name of one ... just ONE ... person whose death certificate or coroner's report states categorically
that the person died from being around secondhand smoke.  What are they hiding?  The truth?  Yes.

3.  Coronary heart disease is found in the huge majority of patients whose family medical history is rife with such disease.  Neither smoking nor secondhand smoke is genetic, but heart disease is.  4.  The SIDS Foundation has told the anti-smoker industry countless times to stop stating that secondhand smoke causes SIDS deaths, because that
claim is not supported in any study, and yet the industry continues to defy the Foundation and continue lying about it.

As for the Surgeon General himself, the Wikipedia encyclopedia quotes Richard Carmona as stating that he
is "... adamantly opposed to tobacco smoking and he has stated more than once that he wants all tobacco
sales and consumption prohibited nationwide."

Carmona doesn't have a personal agenda by releasing this super-biased report, does he?  No, of course not!
His motives are pure as the driven snow. He'll go after all you Fatties and Alkies next!

I heard on the radio this morning the absurd claim that one in four women will die of breast cancer every 12 minutes.

Does that mean that in an hour there will be no more women in America? Excuse me, I have to go do something.
