China has the one child policy, has had for a long time.
Sons being preferred, many remote areas don't have the medical equipment to 'scan' determine the sex of the fetus.
Result: after a normal birth, if a girl...... bye

I've seen statements in the recent past, that the age cohorts where this is a real issue are just now coming of age. I'd love to see something more definitive on that, if you come across it.

I believe I've seen mention that the higher percentage of Chinese males is reaching adulthood. I'll keep an eye out for more detail. I know Mark Steyn mentioned China-Russia border issues in this context recently.

As I see it their options boil down to war in one form or another at least in the case of China.

A bit but out of choice not necessity.

Don't have time to look it up right now but in Russia the women outnumber and outlive the men so it would be a logical place for them to get them from.

There is the difference in religion to consider though.
