U.S. Northern Command confirms 7th missile launch by DPRK
NORTHCOM ^ | July 5, 2006

Posted on 07/05/2006 12:40:29 PM PDT by bnelson44

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – U.S. Northern Command officials acknowledged today that the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea has launched a sixth short-range ballistic missile from Kittaeryong into the Sea of Japan.

It is the seventh launch from the DPRK that trained personnel stationed at the headquarters of the command based in Colorado Springs, Colo., have been able to detect and monitor since Tuesday.

USNORTHCOM personnel continue to monitor using various worldwide ground-, sea- and space-based sensors.

While Ground-based Midcourse Defense System interceptors at Fort Greely, Alaska, and Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., were operational during the flight, top officials from the command were able to determine quickly that the launch posed no threat to United States or its territories.

The GMD System is available when needed to defend the United States, its allies, infrastructure and population centers. Missile defense crews are trained and our systems are ready to respond as necessary. U.S. Northern Command has the primary responsibility to direct missile defense operations to protect the homeland, allies, friends and other national interests from potentially hostile acts.

Command officials will not discuss under what circumstances or conditions deployment of the interceptors will be considered.

Early this morning, the BBC was discussing NK's missile launches with someone who agreed with them...PC/Clintonian thinking. And the reporterette said, "What if...uh..NK shoots off a missile and it sort of, maybe accidentally hits the US." The Clintonite didn't bother to point out that if a missile is aimed in your direction and hits you, you can be fairly sure it was no accident. They thought there might be more trouble if one landed in Japan, by accident, of course.

Larry King had a panel packed with six Clintonoids and Mad Maddie on the phone, and one lone republican on the phone. Except for the lone republican who kept saying, "Thank God we have a missile defense system," they all said the same thing, it's Bush's fault because he broke the treaty they'd signed with NK. Once he did that, they could go ahead with nuclear missile development. Not a peep about NK doing that while they paid him blackmail. Wendy Sherman, ex-ambassador to NK, under Clinton, said she didn't think Kim Il Jung was crazy. Just a little eccentric. They lied like mad and didn't utter one word of thanks that we had a missile defense system. Larry played dumb, as usual. They all looked scared to death.

Funny (or sad) thing is, they probably believe that this idiot abided by the "treaty".

I had a flat coming to work today...It's all Bushes fault.

Well now they are saying that little sob's playing with his missiles is causing oil prices to spike.
If he DIDN'T play with his missiles, oil prices would have spiked too. Oil prices are a game. I wouldn't lose any sleep over that.

That could be. War scare would tend to make people look around for things that could be affected immediately and large, which oil fits the description very well. There are a lot of people nervous about war, more every day.

That would nullify the effect of the drug...

For a normal person. But I heard those two really partied hard last time she was there. I imagine that little runt is quite the freak.

How about if we shown them what long range really means...

We did. It was called the space shuttle. Kim has to bbe feeling a little "inadequate" right about now.

By international law, it is like pointing any weapon at someone else and shooting it. It is an act of war.

If our D.C. leadership determines that we will not do anything to prevent the wmd-possessing lunatic from firing at us, I suppose it's a good thing that we can determine QUICKLY, after the fact, that the shots fired were no threat. *rolls eyes*

Actually, it's done in REAL TIME, and the real-time threat assessments guided the REAL TIME response.

Perhaps you should reserve your eye-rolling antics to subjects about which you have a clue.

LMAO.........Ohhhh....well if THAT'S the case......wouldn't want to take any PREVENTIVE measures when there's REAL TIME assessment and response going on.

I'm not believing one word the press has to say on this. This was a military operation taken up by the most dedicated of our fine military. They are the first line of defense against a nuclear attack and they take their job VERY seriously. I know some friends that served in that capacity during the cold war and the stories that they can tell me would give the average citizen a nervous breakdown. These are exceptional people with nerves of steel. They are hand picked for their job and they will perform and follow orders to the death. I admire them and respect them, they know the awesomeness of their task and they do it better than any other human on the face of this earth.

I asked a friend of mine about a scene in the movie "War Games". He was the commanding officer of a ballistic missile silo during the cold war. He told me that the scenario "proclaimed" in the movie would NEVER happen. When given the order to launch, you launch on command, you don't think, you do your duty. There is no hesitation because of the screening process for the personnel in those positions. They will verify to the max, but after verification they go to combat mode and fire their missiles. That is what they are continually trained for.

Had the word come to shoot the Koren missile down it would have been carried out in a heart beat and with the utmost precision.

Your bellicose response merely emphasizes your previous display of ignorance.

Actually, they determine that there was a launch, its transjectory, how long before it will hit, and, in this case, that it had fallen into the sea. If other data had been determined, the response would have been different.

Thank you. However my point of contention, which r9etb failed to comprehend, is not with Northern Command's assessment and response to the situation, but the Administration's failure to take action BEFORE the wmd weilding lunatic's missles are aimed and launched in my direction.

I voted for Bush twice, but that was before he started acting like a Democrat.

And Truman, Ike, Kennedy ( who almost caused WW II with the USSR !), LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush the elder, Slick Willie and yes, Bush the younger never shot down/nuked any of the missiles that have been trained on us by the USSR and China. Does THAT upset you as well?

Psssssssssssssssssssst.....re your tagline, Tancredo will NEVER be president. Heck, he's going to have a hard enough time tying to just keep his seat in Congress.

Command officials will not discuss under what circumstances or conditions deployment of the interceptors will be considered.
But the NYT will, just like they're scheduled to publish the intelligence report and its various classified sections detailing and discussing WMD's in Iraq. Damn methods and operations concerns, the people deserve to know who's been lying to them and how!

Yeah, that's RIGHT. I have supported him over the years and defended him when it was right to do so, even through Dubai.

I voted for him, but I didn't swear loyalty to him as if he were some kind of perfect godly dictator. IMO, Those who have, have set themselves up for great disappointment. Afterall, he's just a man.

The photo of North Korea's loopy dictator looks like he just took a hit on a bong, and is trying not to cough.

In fact, you could say that....

There was a man named Kim Jong.
Who took a big hit on a bong.
Kim Jong launched a NoDong,
But it snagged on a schlong,
Now everyone knows it's too long.
