but between us... you've made a terrible mistake, haven't you? C'mon, admit it... don't you prefer this flag?...

We're always willing to welcome back the prodigal son, you know. We'll pretend none of this ever happened and take you back.

Except Ted Kennedy. He can (bleep) off.

Cute ... Why don't we meet and talk about it over a few cold brewskis.

I know this nice place in a little burg called "Yorktown, Virginia" that would do just fine ...

Hey! I know you may not realize this, but a lot of us of the "Southern" persuasion don't take kindly to being called "Yanks"!

If you want to understand that kind of stuff, you have to go very carefully into the history of the language, the dialects, and the catchment areas for immigration to various parts of the US.

What is really relevant is what dialects were spoken in each English county, by each class, and where these groups typically migrated to in America. Of course, there were also Scots Gaelic speakers settling in the Carolinas, and Plattdeutsch speakers in Pennsylvania.

Oh, and what DO you Brits do on July 4th?

The miserable blighters go to work, like it was any other day. I've had the (mis)fortune to be over there on Independence Day. On business. Business as usual.

Oh, well ... My crew and I raised a glass to George Washington, and it didn't start a fight. So at least the Limeys are polite about it.

Is that Eaker breakdancing with railroad flares strapped to his extremeties?

How did you know?!?

Nobody busts a move like homie Eaker. Although I thought it might be you working up a couple of light wadcutter loads at the Dillon press.

Have to admit, we should have kept the accent.

And some of their great slang terms. Sometimes "wanker" is the perfect description for someone.

Last year I over heard one of our idiot salespeople on a conference call with some customers in London. She said, "Oh, we'll be closed for July 4th. Are you all off, too?" What I wouldn't have given to hear the comments after that call was over.
