It'd be nice if they can do it today.

Blue skies and partly cloudy but normal for here. Traffic is already starting...arrgh.

Scheduled liftoff is 2:38 p.m. EDT (11:38am Pacific). Thanks. I'm hoping that HDNet will cover it in HD. Looked great via DIRECTV the other day before it was scrubbed.

I have a good feeling that the launch attempt scheduled for today will be successful.
NASA is working one technical problem at the moment.
From Mission Status Center at spaceflightnow.com:
1235 GMT (8:35 a.m. EDT)
Over the past few minutes, a technical problem has arisen in the countdown with the 100 amp circuit breaker that control all of the heaters on the solid rocket booster joints. A special red team is being assembled for deployment to the launch pad for troubleshooting. The circuit breaker panel is located on the mobile launch platform.
The problem has taken down the backup capability for the heaters, although the system is still operational on the primary side. NASA would like to have full redundancy and there is time in the countdown to do the repair now.

Did they fix the gash they found? I have very mixed feeling on this today....
Happy 4th...America

It was a tear in the foam that was caused when they disconnected the fuel lines.
I would think they have that repaired by now, but I'm not sure it would have mattered anyway because of it's location.

NASA's lucky that a law wasn't passed to ban the use of sparklers for igniting the SSMEs. Especially today when fireworks are such an issue.

"Extensive inspection showed that the area around the crack is intact and there is no concern for overheating around the bracket, as there is adequate foam still in place around the strut. Additional borescope inspection of the tank revealed that the metal bracket itself has no cracks."
In scheduled hold at 3:00:00.

Geez, I knew our local news anchor was wrong - she said 12:30 our time (CDT). Oh well, at least she was off by an hour *early* so if I had listened to her timing, I wouldn't have missed anything - would've been sitting there for an hour, instead.
But now I'm torn! There is another local event at 1:00 that shows such promise of being entertaining.
No lie - on our news "Calendar of Events" today it said: 1:00 - Rev. Jesse Jackson will lead a protest against the oil industry
Where: BP Refinery, street address, Houston
Hope there isn't a traffic jam!
Happy 4th of July to us all!

Enjoy the launch. This one will be the last for the shuttle system.Says who? There are at least 10 flights scheduled between now and 2010 to finish the ISS.
