Thank heavens for replays! I was outside looking for it and didn't see a thing. Too much cloud cover between me and it, I guess.

Just outside our atmosphere. When it comes back, the atmosphere has to slow it down from 18,000 MPH to zero, hence temperatures 3,000+ degrees.

No one else even can do this! Exactly!
To Osama & friends thinking you can bring down the USofA: This is how we celebrate our country's birthday - how do you? Oh that's right - you have no country - you're just a parasite.

T+plus 14 minutes. Discovery has reached a preliminary sub-orbital trajectory. Coming up, the Orbital Maneuvering System engines will be fired to raise the low point to a safe altitude.
Not quite done with the entire launch sequence at this point.

I had a boss that did summer work at IBM. A EE student, he had to clip off any protruding wires on curved
printed circuit boards. He said that it didn't take too long measuring solder joints to get the mechanical
guys to create a jig that he could just slide the boards through until he hit an out of spec joint.

Godspeed, Discovery.
I doubt anybody will actually read this, down here in the late 500s, but anybody who watched this launch absolutely MUST MUST MUST read Bill Whittle's essay COURAGE. I'm not ashamed to say I cried.
