So, fasting can apparently include all sorts of eating. Think of it as "creative fasting". One has to wonder if this "Liquids only" fast could include protein shakes, smoothies, milk shakes, Slim Fast/diet drinks, etc. How amazingly phony!

Fasting is 'water only'.

Well then, I must fast for at least 8 or 9 hours everyday. I should make those hours count and stand for something!

My understanding of the concept is that you don't eat or drink for a period of time (usually 24hrs.)

By the way, if you're wondering what they mean when they say "long term fast", they mean 2 weeks or more. The woman referenced in the first line of the article as an exemplar, her longest fast was for 31 days. That's a decent time period but I sincerely doubt that this fast will go beyond 2 weeks if it lasts that long.

Sounds like a "motivating" diet plan for some. I mean.. aren't the same groups against obesity, too?

You sure are. But don't forget the eggs, sausage, and bacon when you "break-fast".

I'm going the steak and taters route this morning and then the big grill fest this afternoon.

Fasting for one's own mental state is probably a good idea. People doing it for the purpose of making a statement against "The Man" are idiots.

It's akin to holding your breath until you pass out. It accomplishes nothing but a headache.

This has got to be the dumbest thing they have come up with yet. Why don't they just commit suicide like their comrades down in Gitmo did. That will show us they really mean business.

They are practicing to observe Ramadan when they reveal the fact that they are in-the closet Muslims.

* water (with electrolytes, ex. Smart Water by Glaceau or add Emergen C) * fruit juices (occasionally diluted with water, ex. orange, apple, grape) * self-made fruit or vegetable drinks * herbal tea * coconut water (highly suggested) * vegetable broth * barley green * wheat grass juice

This fast could make you fat!

I like your idea. Can you imagine Cindy Sheehan, Susan Sarandon, Diane Wilson, The Baldwin boys, that screeching singer whats'ername, you know the one with the horrible looking nose. All standing together blowing themselves up. What a great statement that would make.
