Atlantic City Casinos Could Close Wednesday

TRENTON, N.J. -- New Jersey's state government was all but shut down Monday, with state lawmakers and the governor unable to agree on a state budget.

The two sides met for nearly four hours Sunday night but couldn't cut a deal.

As part of the dispute, Atlantic City's casinos have been ordered to close Wednesday.

The shutdown, now in its third day, is a result of the New Jersey Legislature's failure to adopt a budget by its July 1 deadline.

The head of the Casino Control Commission ordered gaming in Atlantic City to cease at 8 a.m. Wednesday if New Jersey fails to enact a budget by then.

Atlantic City's 12 casinos have appealed to the courts to intervene.

Gov. Jon Corzine said there's "no immediate prospect of a budget." New Jersey state parks, beaches and historic sites also were expected to shut down Wednesday.

A Really Dim Gov and an equally Dim Legislature and the folks in NJ get the Government they deserve.

They never seem to learn.

Dumb question . . . what do the casinos need the New Jersey state government for?

Perhaps they are required to have state auditors on site?

dumb-ass Corzine?

This turd actually thinks he will be the President of the United States one day......that's how big his ego is.

No wonder even Democrats in New Jersey can't stand that guy.

"Dumb question . . . what do the casinos need the New Jersey state government for?"

It is my understanding that without a functioning Casino Control Commission, which is a state agency being temporarily closed, the casinos can not legally operate. The gaming commissions oversee/control/approve all aspects of gaming, from testing the chips in slot machines for integrity to background checks and licensing for employees. I was a pit poss in a riverboat casino and was licensed by my state's gaming commission.

The fact they even elected this dupe with all the information they received, even from his ex-wife, prior to election day, doesn't speak highly of the citizens of the State of NJ...

They already pay some of the highest taxes in the country and can't balance their budget without raising more taxes, what does that tell everyone?

Not a chance. Especially with the Courts in this beknighted state.

On Brit Hume's show today, somebody on the panel said that New Jersey lost 60,000 people alone in 2004. If the tax increases are passed like Corzine intended to, it will only accelerate the depopulation in the "Garden State" especially of the productive class.

The term "cuts in spending" never manages to find it's way to the tongue of a democrat.

Can you imagine what that will do for the tax rates of those left? This is shades of Jimmy Carter era, and a good lesson why we cannot afford to vote for a democrat, ever.
