'Condistas' want Rice for president in 2008
By JULIE CARR SMYTH, AP Statehouse Correspondent 16 minutes ago
Their names are varied: Team Condi. Rice for America. The Draft Rice movement. Condistas.
But this disparate group of Internet gurus, politics junkies and Hillary haters shares a common goal: Elect Republican Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice president in 2008.
Mick Wright, a professional webmaster in Memphis, Tenn., was one of more than a dozen people to register a draft-Rice Web site in the year after President Bush was re-elected. He said he was driven by the "post-election blues."
"Once that was all over, you started thinking what's going to happen in the next election?" said Wright, a co-founder of http://www.condipundit.com. "The first one to come to mind as a viable candidate was Condoleezza Rice."
Similar Web sites from Seattle to West Sand Lake, N.Y., from Magna, Utah, to Cedarville, Ohio, have cropped up, touting Rice's credentials, marketing T-shirts, bobblehead dolls and "I Like Rice" buttons, and soliciting donations.
The Miami-based Americans for Dr. Rice political action committee has gone further, establishing state-level chapters in key political battleground states, including Ohio and Florida, and putting state chairs in place around the country. A second PAC, Rice for America, emerged in Greensboro, N.C., in July though neither has yet reported any income or spending to the Federal Election Commission.
These activist groups declare their independence from the Republican Party, and from Rice herself who says she has no intention of running.
Yet political experts say there is no question that party leaders have a hand in Rice's rise as a potential candidate, and that power brokers will watch closely this fall to see what happens to Rice's fellow black Republicans in high-profile races in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

I guess I don't understand spending so much time and effort backing someone who doesn't WANT to be POTUS. It seems self-defeating, to me. Why not rally behind a candidate who believes in our nation and WANTS to be the leader of our nation? If Condi said she was interested in the position, I could get behind her, but she isn't interested. We need to spend our energy defending this nation from terrorism and liberalism.
Condi the Tachikoma??

Condistas: People who confuse the Presidency with the Miss America pageant.
OK but I'm not 100% sure that's not a bit like questioning a quote from a lawyer, from a position taken in support of a client.
It could certainly be interpreted as Dr. Rice's personal viewpoint, but there's an exchange which IMHO indicates otherwise:
The exchange: (Starting with Senator Lugar's question, continuing)
"I cannot think of a stronger administration statement in support of the Law of the Sea Convention. Should I assume that the president would like to see this convention passed as soon as possible?"
"RICE: He would certainly like to see it pass as soon as possible."
Does that sound to you, like a representative of the United States President, advocating for his policy?
Or a politician expressing a personal view?
I'm a tiny bit more inclined to think the former.
(tho I confess some bias)
Yes. She continuously repeats the line that Israel must exercise "restraint" in dealing with terrorists. She's done the same in recent days. That's not the kind of leadership I want in the White House.
Those kind of comments are hypocritical considering what the United States has done to Zarquawi and others. Let Israel defend themselves.
She's a tool of the elite establishment like Powell and probably thinks a lot like him too. I think the GOP elite is pushing her as an alternative to McCain, who I don't admire either as you can catch from the tag line.
Ron Paul is very anti-UN. He is also the one who had a bill in congress to withdraw the U.S. from the U.N. and it got only 80-something votes in the 435-member house of representatives.
Clear the way ..., the Condi-haters will be here shortly. Me? I'd support her.
Where's the petition? Where do I sign? So far, she is the best republican out there for the job, IMO. I know I'm not the only one.
Have you heard, there is a crises in the Mideast.
It has to do with the fact that Hamas is the elected leadership of the "Palestinians".
Israel did not believe a terrorist group should be allowed to run in free elections.
Rice insisted Hamas be allowed to run.
Rice for President. Here is a slogan: Failure with style 2008.
They got that right.
Ditto that......but I also include Giulliani and McCain. If McCain wins the nomination I'm done with the GOP for good.
You were right.
I won't vote for a baby killer! I have said it before and no matter how many times we put her on a pedistal, she is still for killing babies. Sorry but that is just not right. Besides she doesn't want the job.
So if she disagreed with LOST she should have resigned?
