Ah, if you weren't aware, it's been made public that Rumsfeld gave permission, and the Secret Service doesn't regard it as a threat. According to a poster on RedState "Rumsfeld's director of public affairs, Hollen Wheeler, said "She got approval to take a picture. She called, we said fine, go take the picture. And that's it." and "I'm a little confused about why this has caused such an uproar." Wheeler declined to directly discuss the question of his security, saying that it was something they don't discuss as a rule. But she said: "Did it affect the Secretary's schedule in any way? No. Does it affect in any way how he does his business? No."

Let's not misplace our energy for stuff like this.

So what. I'm pretty sure Rummy himself didn't give permission. It was probably some lower level bureaucrat, who may well have been a Clinton holdover.
